Ahead of the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee meeting, there are consequential allegations against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra.
The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee is investigating the ‘Cash for Query’ case. The committee’s chairperson, Vinod Sonkar said that the report has been drafted and will be sent to the Lok Sabha speaker after necessary discussion.
Prior to the meeting, Vinod Sonkar said in an interview, ‘The Ethics Committee has seen and examined all the evidence. Darshan Hiranandani’s affidavit, Nishikant Dubey’s complaint and Mahua Moitra’s statement. The Ethics Committee will hold a discussion on the drafted report. Following this, the report will be sent to the Speaker of Lok Sabha.’
He further said, ‘ In the two meetings held earlier, we examined the complaint by Nishikant Dubey, the affidavit submitted by Darshan Hiranandani and also recorded Mahua Moitra’s statement. After all these, today we are holding a Look Sabha Ethics Committee meeting to discuss the issue in detail, make necessary decisions and investigate further if required. Then the proposal will be sent to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.’
He was questioned on possible chances of revoking Mahua Moitra’s Lok Sabha membership to which he said, ‘ The Committee will decide this. We will examine the evidence deeply and then send a final report to the Speaker.’
According to the sources, the committee can recommend expulsion of Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha and take appropriate actions against Danish Ali who is a member of the committee in Bahujan Samaj Party MP.
Mahua Moitra appeared in the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on November 2, in regard to the ‘Cash for Query’ allegation on her. Accompanied by the members of the opposition panel, she ‘walked out’ of the meeting. She allegedly complained that she was asked personal questions in the meeting by the committee members.
Opposition members of the Ethics Committee also raised questions over the line of questioning to the Trinamool Congress MP.
The members who ‘walked out ‘ of the meeting also included BSP MP, Danish Ali, Janata Dal ( United ) MP Giridhari Yadav and Congress MP Uttam Kumar Reddy.
Primarily on Wednesday, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey claimed that in accordance with his complaint on the ‘Cash for Query’ case, anti- corruption ombudsman Lok Pal had asked for a team of the Central Bureau Of Investigation ( CBI ) to look into the matter.
In a post on X ( formerly known as Twitter ), Nishi Kant Dubey claimed, ‘ Based on my complaint today, the Lok Pal has ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation against Mahua Ji. She committed corruption by mortgaging national security.’
In response to this, TMC MP Mahua Moitra Targeted the Lokpal with a series of posts on X stating that CBI should first investigate the Adani Group.
One of her posts on X states, ‘ Very happy to know Modi Ji’s Lokpal exists and has been spurred into action…. Why not ask Lok Pal’s office to release a statement on referral. It’s a bit humiliating for the Lokpal office to outsource such important announcements….?’
