Both Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone were “besties” before the term was even trendy. Despite being bombarded with questions about their supposed rivalry, these queens consistently exhibited unwavering strong friendship. Priyanka Chopra was interviewed at an event in 2016, after she had already contributed to the West, and the reporter asked her about her competition. He began by praising her achievement on a global level and mentioning that Deepika had also begun to do well in Hollywood.
The reporter asked if she had any knowledge about the gossip being circulated about their Bollywood championship turning into an international one and if she had anything to say. “You guys used to say that we were friends; now it is like a competition,” Priyanka retorted in her characteristic fierce manner. Everyone previously stated that we were best friends, so tell me how, when, and why it changed.
Another instance that I remembered was when Deepika Padukone gave an interview for Vogue India during that same year, and when she was asked about her sour relationship with Priyanka, she declined to comment, but also stated, “We have had very different beginnings”. I remember when she won Miss World, and I was still in school! After so many years of knowing her, nothing has changed.
She went on to reject the widely held rumor that the two actresses with comparable career paths will inevitably face competition, asserting that “everyone has a different way and a different journey.”
The actress further said she has known Priyanka for a long time, and would find it ‘very awkward and strange’ to compare the two. ‘I don’t even see Priyanka and me as competitors; we never were. Why should we be now? In her domain, She’s doing amazing work. She’s doing work that demands a different nature than what I’m doing. And hers demands a bigger time commitment than mine.” Deepika added.
In terms of their careers, Deepika and Priyanka appeared together in the 2015 blockbuster Bajirao Mastani directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
