Taking place on an outdoor runway surrounded by turf at the UNESCO offices, Pharrell Williams, the men’s creative director of Louis Vuitton, opened Paris Fashion Week on June 18th. For its Spring/Summer 2025 men’s line, the well-known fashion brand—which is most known for its distinctive damier patterns and monogrammed luggage—embraced a travel theme.

A packed house and boisterous fans lined the street outside the LVMH-owned (LVMH.PA) new tab label, hoping to see the arrival of popular celebrities such as NBA basketball player Victor Wembanyama, actor Michael Fassbender, pop icon Sabrina Carpenter, and K-pop sensation Jackson Wang.

Louis Vuitton’s New Era with Pharell Williams

Earlier this year, pop culture icon and fashion enthusiast Pharrell Williams took the reins on Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection. Pharell’s debut in the industry with Louis Vuitton was highly anticipated. The fashion world had been eager to see how his distinctive personality and creative vision would transform the company and mark Louis Vuitton’s new era in the world of fashion.

Runway at UNESCO Headquarters

The fashion runway took place at the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation, which is well-known for its endeavours in promoting global security and peace via international collaboration through education, the sciences, and culture. It was fitting of Pharell Williams’ debut summer/spring 2025 men’s collection within the UNESCO Headquarters. The event highlighted Louis Vuitton’s dedication to cultural heritage and global significance.

Williams-produced music was played by an orchestra and choir as models walked down the grass runway wearing perfectly fitted suits, sleek bomber jackets, fur coats, sunglasses studded with rhinestones, and big brooches shaped like aircraft wings.

There were glittering new interpretations of the pixelated Damier check pattern and silk-style pyjama suits that were popular during Williams’ time.

Sustainability and Inclusivity

Throughout the collection, Pharrell advertised sustainability and diversity through the show. Models from different cultural backgrounds and physiques walked the runway, demonstrating the designs’ enduring popularity. The programme notes described the model selection as “a palette rendered in the nuances of skin tones of all the humans on the planet,” with colour coding used to coordinate skin tones with clothing. It was claimed that a large number of the items were made with ethical production methods and environmentally friendly components.

The lead and Impact

As France prepares for the summer Olympics and two rounds of elections in the coming weeks that have thrown the nation into political turmoil, the men’s fashion presentations in Paris will be followed by Haute Couture Week.

Also, it was noticed that while high-end labels and fashion companies like Hermes, Dior, and Louis Vuitton are showing their collections at Paris Fashion Week, other labels like Valentino, Givenchy, and a few more are reportedly skipping this season’s show.

It has also come to light that the demand for clothes and accessories is declining for luxury brands worldwide, with the important Chinese market being a particular cause for concern.
