Mamata Banerjee cautioned against adopting the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). She also charged that misleading material was published in BJP commercials.

Banerjee declared that “those granted citizenship will be thrown behind the bars by branding them as foreigners” during speeches at successive election rallies in Daspur and Gopiballavpur.

The announcement made by the Central government on Friday that it had awarded citizenship to 14 individuals under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, according to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was described as a “lie”. During the Lok Sabha elections, she referred to the statement as “politics”.

At rallies in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee said that the Central government will declare people who were awarded citizenship to be foreigners and put them in jail.

Mamata Banerjee advised against utilizing the Citizenship by Acquisition Act (CAA). She also charged that misleading material was published in BJP commercials.

“BJP is spreading misinformation through its ads. One of these ads says that Sikh and Hindu immigrant communities can apply for citizenship through CAA. As voters, you all are already legal citizens, so don’t trust them,” he alleged. to PTI that “if you apply, you will be deported as a foreigner”.

“The entire thing is a lie staged by the BJP just as they did in Sandeshkhali,” stated Mamata Banerjee.

She pleaded with the residents of the Matua community to resist believing the purported falsehood.

“After the elections, people will be jailed and thrown out of their homes.” She warned people not to trust the BJP.

In 2019, the CAA came into effect. Nonetheless, the Central government ultimately announced its regulations in March of this year.

The law simplifies the citizenship process for non-Muslim refugees who were persecuted and fled to India before December 31, 2014, from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

Mamata Banerjee argues that Muslims are discriminated against by the law. She has promised that if the INDIA alliance wins control of the Central government, she will not carry out the law in West Bengal and will repeal it.

The first batch of citizenship certificates under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act were given to 14 individuals by the Central government on Wednesday.

In its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP pledged to award citizenship under the CAA to those who meet the requirements.

At their rallies, federal minister Amit Shah and prime minister Narendra Modi declared that the CAA will not be repealed.

BJP’s Reaction To Mamata Banerjee’s Statements:

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been accused of having an “unstable mind” by JP Nadda, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), after Banerjee accused the Central government of “lying” over awarding citizenship to 14 individuals under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Nadda added that law and order is a matter for the state. He stated. “Her motives are questionable. When it came to Sheikh Shahjahan’s situation, she said nothing. The CBI had to be given the inquiry by the high court. Why did she first remain silent before blaming the BJP? In order to get votes, she made concessions to the country.”

The president of the BJP attacked Banerjee, saying, “TMC is giving criminals shelter and giving them ID cards and ration cards, making them voters, this is anti-national.”

Abhijit Gangopadhyay, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for Tamluk Lok Sabha seat, received a show-cause notice from the Election Commission of India (EC) on Friday for his inappropriate comments made in reference to Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of Bengal.

The polling organization warned that “the comment is unacceptable, injudicious, beyond decency in every sense of the term, in bad taste” and that it seemed to go against both the March 1, 2024, advisory to political parties and the Model Code of Conduct’s principles.

TMC leader Derek O’Brien in a letter he submitted to West Bengal’s Chief Electoral Officer stated what Gangopadhyay commented during his speech in Haldia on May 15, “Mamata Banerjee, what price are you being sold for? Ten lakhs is your rate. Why? since Keya Seth is doing your makeup for you? Is Mamata Banerjee a woman at all? Sometimes I can’t stop wondering.”

In addition to requesting the CEO’s office to start criminal proceedings against Gangopadhyay and forbid him from ever attending any public gatherings, processions, or rallies, the TMC had also demanded that he and other BJP candidates refrain from making any disparaging or personal remarks.
