The man, during preliminary inquiry, told police that he took the step due to family disputes
Five family members including a mother and her four daughters were found murdered in a Lucknow hotel. The son, Arshad, has been arrested in this connection. He confessed that his motive was harassment from neighbors and community pressure. The murders were carried out by him and his father. Police are on the lookout for the father who has been on the run.
A man, it has now been confirmed by the police, has killed his mother and four sisters in a hotel in Lucknow in what was termed a tragedy; he was arrested later.
According to the police, Arshad, 24, is a resident of Agra and, during the preliminary probe, stated that he had taken the step due to family disputes.
The deceased were identified as Alia, 9; Alshia, 19; Aksa, 16; and Rahmeen, 18–all of whom were sisters of Arshad. The fifth is the mother of Arshad, Asma, the police stated.
Deputy Commissioner of Police-C (DCP-C), Lucknow, Raveena Tyagi, stated that the incident happened at Hotel Sharanjit in Naka area of Lucknow.
“The accused Arshad, 24, reportedly killed five members of his own family and afterwards was arrested on the spot by the local police,” said DCP Tyagi.
A forensic team has been set up on the crime spot to collect evidence, while a full-fledged investigation has been launched; the DCP stated.
“The inquiry would also question the nearby hotels’ staff, and findings would be shared with the media as soon as they come on stream,” said Babloo Kumar, joint commissioner of police, crime and headquarters.
How was it made possible?
Arshad had come with his family to Lucknow to celebrate New Year, but he had his own malicious intentions. After brutally murdering his family’s members, he deposited his father at the railway station and went to the police station to lodge a report of the crime. Police were examining the CCTV footage of the railway station to locate Badar, who has been reported missing since the crime.
Arshad’s statement:
According to the police, the video records Arshad saying, “I killed them (mother and sisters) in collaboration with my father. Did I have any choice? I had an option to have them sold off in Hyderabad?” He let the Chief Minister know-Yogi Adityanath to do justice. We have saved their honour.
Lucknow DCP Ravina Tyagi quotes ANI as saying that Arshad was detained, whereupon he confessed that he had first intoxicated his sisters and mother and had then either strangled or slit the wrists of some of them.
