Erling Haaland completed a century of his matches with Manchester City, scoring his 91st goal.
The second goal was a good shot by Mateo Kovacic who ran through the Chelsea midfielders and scored another goal, in six minutes on time.
Chelsea had high hopes with the Premier League commenced, given the transfers and authority changes under their new manager Enzo Maresca, but even with some fashionable attacking moves, the Gunners lost to the visitors.
Manchester City as the Reigning Champions
With four Premier League titles, City’s hunger for the fifth title has began and it was clearly evident in yesterday’s match. Pep Guardiola and his team’s iron will has absolutely no answer, last weekend after winning the Community Shield, they came back and prepared in no time, to win against Chelsea.
The 24 year old striker, Haaland carried the pass on by Jeremy Doku, navigating through Cucurella, Colwill and Sanchez. Pep Guardiola has praised Haaland that he seemed better than last season.
The attacking moves of Chelsea were skillfully superior, those of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson who definitely thought they equalized the scores, but were dismantled by the City players. The City Players, with their precision and play, dominated the whole game, their set of midfielders and attackers, as if they controlled the game.
Six minutes before the timing of the match, Mateo Kovacic scored another goal past Sanchez, starting off a roar on the field. With the final whistle, the match concluded and Manchester City won yet another match, which meant controlling the start of their defense title.
This match marked as a reminder for Chelsea to overcome the challenges they are facing, as they head towards the Premier League.
What went wrong with Chelsea?
Enzo Maresca, the new manager of Chelsea said the boys had performed well, even if they had not given their best performances, they tried to, but didn’t take their chances. He was hopeful about their performances and they’ll take the chances in the next matches of the Premier League.
After this fueling defeat against City, Maresca would make necessary changes in the squad, and it isn’t the first time they’ve lost against City or otherwise. The slow build up play by Levi Colwill and Fofana was frustrating, even for the fans.
The major mistake were the midfield issues, Chelsea has spent a huge money on the transfer of players, and the three midfielders they bought, accounted to €255m, was swapped away in air, when former Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic clinched a goal in absence of Rodri.
Then there was the issue of Raheem Sterling being left out of the squad, before the match began. Sterling has a three year deal with the club, but is seeking more information on his future at the club.
Chelsea has always lost their first match in the Premier League for 25 years. Given the areas that need improvement, Maresca will solidify his squad to push them and win.
