On Tuesday, 12th December, the new look of the cabin and cockpit crew was disclosed on social media and dropped a video, captioned “New Journey”. After 60 years the Air India crews will be getting dressed up in a fusion attire by designer MM.
Renowned designer Manish Malhotra is worldwide famous for his designs mostly lehengas but this time it is a challenge for him to address the couture for Air India. Already his designs are revealed and loved and praised by many people.
Saree is the traditional culture of India but the Pant-suit belongs to the Western culture fashion; here is the main twist, Manish Malhotra made saree-pantsuits or pant-sarees, which are mostly the same as palazzo pants with saree drappings.
According to the organization, India’s heritage has been brought out with Manish Malhotra’s touches of Indian colours – deep red, aubergine and elegant gold; which represents a confident, vibrant and proudly new India. Here, MM adds some patterns with it such as Indian heritage architecture jharokha and the Vista, the new Air India logo icon which is paired with the comfortable blouse and blazer. Although everything is the same with a fashionable twist with more comfort and easy manageability.
Manish Malhotra’s Side of the Story; New Journey
In India, one of the top international designer is Manish Malhotra and he is especially renowned for his lehengas, every Indian brides although international brides dream of wearing Manish Malhotra’s collections on their wedding. There is no Bollywood or Indian celebrity and fashion model who hasn’t worn MM’s collections at least once.
Manish Malhotra said, “There have been times when halfway across the world I have caught a glimpse of an Air India plane and felt closer to India again”. The cabin crew served the passengers wearing lehengas and mang-tikas in the early years. Till 1962, the female crews also wore skirts, and jackets along with a hat. so, for MM it is addressed as a “chance” to design the uniform putting the new fashion era while maintaining the cultural aspects.
From pilots, and cabin crew to ground staff, and security guards in all, Manish has made around 10,000 clothes for the workers. Air India is about to write a new historical journey in the global aviation system, CEO Campbell Wilson expressed hope.
Air India’s New Airbus A350
A new phase of Air India is about to begin with the new Airbus A350; Air India’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) Mr. Wilson, announced in an event on 10th August that the first journey of A350 aircraft was served by the new uniforms of the crews.
Moreover, the new uniforms will be introduced in the next few months. Promising a bright future Manish Malhotra stepped into this process of evolution and unique creations.
