Supreme Court has decided to hear Delhi Ex Dep. CM Manish Sisodia’s plea for bail in the Delhi excise policy scam case and also hear response from the CBI as well as ED on Tuesday.
Sisodia’s Arrest Story
The then CM was arrested by Enforcement Directorate (ED) on February 26, 2023 for his alleged hand in the Liquor policy case and then was again arrested a month later by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in March 2023 for money laundering case when he handed his resignation from the Dep. CM’s post. He had been incarcerated for around 16 months for seeking bail, with the Apex court finally hearing the plea. On July 11, a bench of judges, namely, Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Sanjay Karol and Sanjay Kumar posted the hearing on July 15 as one of the judges recused himself out of the matter.
Manish Sisodia’s reaction to the “Delay”
The Apex Court has received the responses of both the Central investigating agencies regarding two different bail pleas by Sisodia on Tuesday. The hearing of the matter has been posted for July 29. The bench of Justices was headed by Justice BR Gavai for hearing who was listed by the CJI Chandrachud after the trial been reached out to him. Sisodia’s advocate Vivek Jain stated that the last plea of October was ruled out by the top court due to pending investigation details. He, along with senior advocate Abhishek Manu Sanghvi has pointed that the trial is yet to even begin for both the cases.
After unsuccessful trial in May, June as well as in October, Court provided former CM’s lawyers another time for applying bail plea for both the cases. The then CM’s adv. reacted saying, “I am in jail for past 16 months and the delay in trail is not my fault. The trial is moving at snail’s pace, and the ground provided in the October 30 judgment for considering bail.” The bench of judges including Justices Sanjay Karol and KV Vishvanathan on Tuesday have conveyed to Sisodia’s lawyers that the matter will now be heard after two weeks.
