Manu Bhaker, an Indian sport shooter and Olympic medallist, recently added two more medals to her achievements at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She also won gold in the women’s 25m pistol team event at the 2022 Asian Games. In 2018, she set a Commonwealth Games record while winning an individual gold medal in the women’s 10-metre air pistol event. At just 16, she became the youngest Indian to secure a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in 2018.
Paris Olympic 2024
She won two bronze medals at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She secured a bronze in the women’s 10 meter air pistol event, becoming the first female shooter from India to win a medal at any Olympics.[1] Subsequently, she earned another bronze medal in the mixed 10 meter air pistol team event, becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in a single Olympics.
Manu as flagbearer
India’s star shooter Manu Bhaker has been chosen as the flagbearer for the Paris Olympics 2024, set to take place on August 11. The 23-year-old, who had a historic performance at the Games with two bronze medals, announced the news on her social media and expressed gratitude to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for the honour.
She also mentions, her tweet “It is an honour and privilege to be named as India’s flagbearer for the Closing Ceremony of the Paris Olympics. Leading the outstanding Indian contingent with the tricolour in my hands with millions around the world watching is a truly humbling opportunity and one that I will cherish forever. I am grateful to The IOA for considering me worthy of this honour, and I look forward to raising the Indian flag with immense pride. Jai Hind!”
During the Opening Ceremony in Paris, PV Sindhu and Sharath Kamal represented India by carrying the flag during the Parade of Nations on the Seine River. The IOA has yet to announce a male flag-bearer for the Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony, which is scheduled for August 11.
