As the counting days begin on June 4, citizens await the results eagerly.

Press Conference After an Election?

One day before the votes in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 are counted, on June 3, at 12:30 pm, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has scheduled a news conference. In the annals of Indian elections, this may be the first time a poll board has called a press conference following an election.

The media invitation from the election commission stated, “Press Conference by Election Commission of India on General Elections 2024.”  Deputy election commissioners used to provide media briefings following each round of the polls, but that practice was discontinued before the 2019 legislative elections.

The lengthy seven-phase polling process for the Lok Sabha elections, which began on April 19, concluded on Saturday, June 1. . On Tuesday, June 4, the vote counting will start at 8 a.m. and go on until the Election Commission has counted all of the votes cast in all 543 constituencies.

What Do the Exit Polls Say?

The majority of exit polls indicated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Narendra Modi, would win the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, surpassing its record of 352 seats in 2019. While some pollsters anticipated the NDA will win more than 400 seats in the Lok Sabha, two pollsters predicted the BJP would increase its numbers from the 303 seats it won in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Ensure postal ballots are counted first: INDIA bloc to EC

Why count postal ballots first? Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the vital importance of counting postal ballots first, and declaring the results of postal ballots first is very clearly stated in the statutory rule and that it had been understood by the Election Commission over the years.

The opposition parties have requested that their representatives keep a careful eye on the Tuesday vote-counting procedure and make sure they receive form 17C, which lists the total number of votes cast at each polling place. Along with requesting that the EC confirm the date and time on the Control Units, the INDIA bloc also asked that the EC specify slips, tags, and information for the counting agents.

What Does the Election Mean Financially?

Reuters reports that exit polls indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be re-elected and receive a large mandate, which would allow him to spend more on infrastructure and manufacturing to sustain economic growth. As a result, stock futures surged ahead of schedule and the rupee appreciated.

At 23,350, NIFTY 50 index futures were up almost 2.7% in early trade, suggesting the index may reach fresh highs when the cash market starts. In contrast to Friday’s closing price of 83.46 in the spot foreign exchange market, non-deliverable rupee forwards were trading at 83.11 to the dollar.
