Michael Douglas to be Felicitated with the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award @ the IFFI 54

On Friday, October 13, 2023, Union Minister Anurag Thakur announced that this year,  the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award would be granted to Michael Douglas, an acclaimed Hollywood Actor and Producer. The Union Minister stated that the Hollywood actor will be honored with the prestigious award at the International Film Festival of India in Goa. 

The Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award : 

The prestigious honor of the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award was instituted at the 30th International Film Festival of India ( IFFI ) in the year 1999. The award is laurelled to individuals who have made significant contributions to the cinematic world.

Previous recipients of the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award include Bernardo Bertolucci ( IFFI – 30) , Dilip Kumar ( IFFI – 38 ), Krzysztof Zanussi ( IFFI – 43 ), Wong Kar-wai ( IFFI – 45 ), Martin Scorsese ( IFFI – 52 ) and Carlos Saura ( IFFI – 53 ).,  among several other exceptional individuals in the cinematic industry.

On Friday, Union Minister Anurag Thakur took to X ( formerly Twitter ) to announce the news of Michael Douglas being felicitated with the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the 54th IFFI in Goa.

Laurels of Michael Douglas : 

Michael Douglas, 79, has an exceptional career spanning over five decades. Some of the critically – acclaimed and lauded movies that he has starred in include “Traffic”, “The War of Roses”, “Falling Down”, “The American President”, “Behind the Candelabra”, “Wall Street”, “Fatal Attraction” and “Basic Instinct”. 

Douglas’ father, Kirk Douglas, was also a Hollywood icon.

The Academy Award for the Best Actor category in 1988 was awarded to Michael Douglas for his role in “Wall Street”.

Furthermore, Michael Douglas also has numerous accolades achieved and received by him, including five Golden Globe Awards, one Primetime Emmy Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the AFI Life Achievement Award and two Academy Awards.  In 1976, he received the Academy Award for the Best Picture category for “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest”. The Academy Award for the Best Actor category in 1988 was awarded to him for his role in “Wall Street”.

At the Cannes Film Festival this year in May, Douglas had visited the Indian Pavilion, where he was felicitated and was invited to the International Film Festival of India.  

According to a press release, Shailendra Singh, who is a National Award-winning film producer, will be hosting a special ‘In Conversation’ session in which Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones will reportedly participate.
