Militant Killed in Gunfight After Attack on Army Convoy Near Jammu

Introduction

On 28th October, 2024, Jammu had another intense gunfight. This time, the security forces in response to the incident, successfully eliminated a militant who had launched an attack on an Army caravan in the Akhnoor area of Jammu. The attackers are suspected to have crossed the border with the goal of disrupting the region’s peace. Early Monday morning, at around 6:30 AM, a group of militants opened fire on an Army convoy that included an ambulance passing through the Bhattal area in Khour, Akhnoor. The convoy was passing near Assan temple in Jogwan village when militants, reportedly looking for a phone to make a call, spotted the vehicle and launched their attack. Although the assault caused significant damage to the ambulance, the personnel on board managed to avoid serious injuries. Following the attack, the militants quickly fled to a nearby forested area.

Intense Response by Security Forces

Following the ambush, Indian Army special forces and the National Security Guard (NSG) were deployed to pursue the attackers. Intense gunfire erupted in the afternoon around 2:45 PM, with helicopters called in to aid in surveillance. In the operation, one militant was killed, and his body, along with a weapon, was recovered from the scene. The army and security forces continue their search operations in the area, as more assailants may still be hiding.
