A magistrate court judge on Sunday remanded Suraj Revanna, JD(S) MLC, who was detained on suspicion of sexually assaulting a male party worker, in judicial custody for a period of 14 days.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) received the case investigation earlier today. Suraj was then transferred from Hassan to Bengaluru and brought to his home to appear before the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (ACMM) judge.

Suraj was arrested on Saturday at the Hassan district’s Holenarasipura Rural Police Station for reportedly assaulting a party worker in a sexual manner a few days prior.
He has been charged with several offenses under the Indian Penal Code, including “unnatural offences”.
Suraj was detained this morning after being questioned overnight at the CEN police station in Hassan, according to a PTI report quoting sources. He was then sent to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) for a medical checkup.
On June 16, a 27-year-old male reported to the police that he had been sexually molested in the Ghannikada farmhouse of Suraj Revanna, the oldest son of Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna.
Late on Saturday night, the Holenarasipura police filed a charge against the JD(S) MLC based on the complaint, citing IPC sections 377 (unnatural offenses), 342 (wrongful detention), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
Suraj Revanna, 37, a nephew of Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy and the grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, has flatly refuted the accusation.
In addition, Suraj claimed that the man had made a “false complaint” against him in an attempt to get ₹5 crore.
The JD(S) worker was accused of extortion by the police on Friday, after a complaint from Suraj Revanna’s close aide Shivakumar.
Shivakumar had stated that the party member was attempting to extract money from him by threatening to register a false case of sexual assault against Suraj Revanna.
The individual allegedly wanted ₹5 crore from Suraj Revanna, but subsequently offered just ₹2 crore.
Abuse Charges?
The son of JD (S) MLC Suraj Revanna, who was questioned in relation to a case of alleged sexual abuse of a 27-year-old man that was filed against him in Hassan late on Saturday (June 22), has put another member of his family in the spotlight. Revanna is the leader of the Janata Dal (S) and a former Minister. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been tasked with handling the matter by the State government.
After being arrested, Dr. Suraj was transported to Bengaluru on Sunday by the Hassan police. After undergoing a medical checkup, he appeared before the magistrate of the Special Court of Magistrate for criminal proceedings involving current and former MPs and MLAs at his Koramangala house. Following that, the judge placed Dr. Suraj under 14 days of judicial custody.
According to well-placed sources, the CID had not yet received the case, and the investigating team will probably seek to take possession of the MLC shortly.
Noteworthy is the fact that Prajwal Revanna, his younger brother and a former Hassan MP, is now being held by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which was established to look into his alleged sexual offenses. Prajwal is accused of rape in three separate occasions.
By the way, B. K. Singh, a senior CID officer, is in charge of the SIT and will now oversee the investigation into Dr. Suraj’s case. In a similar vein, Mr. Prajwal’s parents are both free on bond due to accusations that they kidnapped a victim of their sexual abuse.
A JD(S) worker from Arkalgud taluk in Hassan district submitted a complaint at the Holenarasipur Rural Police Station on Saturday, claiming that Dr. Suraj had sexually assaulted him on June 16 at his farmhouse in Gannikada, Holenarsipur taluk.
In response to the allegation, the MLC was taken by the police to the Cyber Economic and Narcotics Crime (CEN) police station in Hassan, where he was questioned for hours before being taken into custody late on Saturday night.
The MLC is accused of assaulting a guy sexually and threatening to kill him if he told anybody about it. Dr. Suraj and his assistant Shivakumar H.L. are the subject of a complaint filed by the Holenarsipur Rural Police under Sections 377 (unnatural offenses), 342 (wrongful imprisonment), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
Mr. H.D. Revanna, MLA, the father of Dr. Suraj, called the accusations made against his son a “conspiracy” and expressed his trust in the legal system and God. H.D. Kumaraswamy, a Union Minister and the uncle of Dr. Suraj, opted to keep a low profile and avoid discussing the subject.
The young person who made the allegation declined to go to Hassan for a medical evaluation. He insisted that he didn’t trust the Hassan hospital personnel. On Sunday, he had a medical checkup at Bengaluru’s Lady Curzon and Bowring Hospital
