Several highly anticipated movies have set new milestones, leaving fans and industry experts astounded. As the dust settles, it’s clear that 2023 is turning out to be a groundbreaking year for Indian cinema.

The Indian film industry has always had a dedicated and enthusiastic fan base, with moviegoers eagerly waiting to book their tickets in advance for their favorite films. However, this year has taken this trend to new heights, with numerous movies breaking previous records for booking.

Here are some of the standout movies that have set the bar high in terms of booking at the Indian box office:

Tiger 3

The third installment of the successful “Tiger” franchise, “Tiger 3” has also made waves in advance booking records. Starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, the action-packed spy thriller has left fans eagerly reserving their seats.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion

This epic historical drama, directed by S.S. Rajamouli, remains a legendary film in Indian cinema history. While released in 2017, “Baahubali 2” continues to set the standard for advance booking records, showcasing the enduring popularity of this masterpiece. The advanced tickets booked were 6.15 Lakhs.

Pathaan

Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback film, “Pathaan,” has taken the booking market by storm. The combination of Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham in this high-octane action thriller has created immense excitement among fans, resulting in record-breaking bookings (5.56 Lakhs).

K.G.F: Chapter 2

The sequel to the 2018 blockbuster “K.G.F: Chapter 1,” this film has raised the stakes for Indian cinema. With its powerful storyline and intense action sequences, it has secured a place among the highest advances of the year. The advanced tickets booked were 5.15 Lakhs.

RRR

Directed by S.S. Rajamouli, “RRR” is another magnum opus that has sent the advance counters into overdrive. The film features an ensemble cast, including Jr. NTR, Ram Charan, and Alia Bhatt, and has fans eagerly securing their seats well in advance.

Laal Singh Chaddha

Aamir Khan’s remake of the iconic Hollywood film “Forrest Gump,” “Laal Singh Chaddha” is highly anticipated by fans and cinephiles alike. The film’s heartwarming story and Aamir Khan’s transformative performance have resulted in an unprecedented surge in advances.

Jawaan

Jawaan has emerged as a dark horse in this year’s advance booking race. With its gripping storyline and a standout performance by Shah Rukh Khan, the film has garnered a substantial number of bookings, surprising many with its unexpected success.

Avatar: The Way of Water

The film broke multiple records and grossed over $2.320 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2022, the highest-grossing film since the COVID-19 pandemic, and the third-highest-grossing film of all time.

Spider-Man

Across the Spider-Verse (2023) achieved a worldwide box office gross of $690,503,650, setting several domestic records and becoming the third-highest-grossing film of 2023.

The Little Mermaid

The 2023 live-action remake of The Little Mermaid grossed $569.6 million worldwide, including $298.2 million in the US and Canada, and $95,578,040 in the US and Canada, making it the most viewed Disney movie premiere on Disney+Hotstar.

Leo, an Indian film, sold the largest booking in 2023, with the Tamil version leading with 13.75 lakh tickets. The film is projected to open at Rs 130 crore worldwide, with 37,346 tickets sold and collected $832,689 (Rs 6.92 crore).

Some other movies with the highest advance bookings include Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Bharat, Sultan, Dangal, and Brahmastra. 

The success of Indian and English-language films in advance bookings reflects the growing Indian audience’s enthusiasm for quality cinema, driven by compelling storytelling, stellar performances, and cutting-edge technology.
