Recently the talented actress Mrunal Thakur who has made her mark in Bollywood Movies ,has opened up on her character and the role that she played as a domestic violence victim in the series ‘Made In Heaven 2’ and the reason as to why she chose to portray that character.
Mrunal Thakur played the character of a bride in the season 2 and which did not go quite well with the audiences because of the choice she made. She portrays the character of a beauty queen and an actress in the second episode of the season which apparently is titled as the ‘Beauty and the Beast’.
The character plays the role where she blindly accepts her finance’s bashing and beating without raising a voice against him and decides to marry him and be with him until she gets divorced.
The audiences were miffed as to how could Mrunal Thakur, who is a very sensible actress in choosing her projects, accept such a character where she is meant to be tolerating her fiance who is beating her up black and blue even a day prior to their marriage.
Apparently her character in the series is said to be one of that who ignores all the red flags of her fiance and goes ahead to marry him, ignoring the fact that it will sureply end into something horrible.
Mrunal has now chosen to open her mouth as to why exactly did she agree to play such a character on screen that later on files a divorce against the same man.
Mrunal Thakur on playing the Domestic Violence Victim
Recently in her interview to Hindustan Times, Mrunal Thakur talked about why she stayed back in an abusive marriage in spite of being a powerful independent Indian woman in the series and tolerated the abuse in spite of knowing the red flags and married him.
She said that when renowned director Zoya Akhtar narrated the story to her she said to Zoya that she knows of so many women who know that their lives aren’t any good or a rosy picture as imagined, yet they do not take the extreme step of filing a divorce because they feel they do not have the courage to face the consequences that follow and rather it takes a lot of time for them to realise that the marriage they have held onto and the carnival that they have seen all this while is nothing but a big red flag.
She said that it often takes a lot of time for a woman to realise that she is in a wrong relationship and it takes even more further to realise when to move out of such a relationship or marriage.
She says that at the end of the show her character named ‘Adhira’ files for a divorce and she is glad that the show turned out this way. Rather it was a good move that she realises things on her own in some time and then at the end files a divorce instead of filing it in the beginning of the episodes.
So above all, the realisation to go back to her career, her profession and her life before marriage comes a little later to the character as she takes some time to come to that conclusion. And that episode is precisely dedicated to such women who are somewhere in an abusive wrong relationship, haven’t realised their worth of late and haven’t yet got the courage to move out of it for their self worth.
Mrunal Thakur, through her character in the series conveys a message to all such ladies to be strong, know your self worth and believe in yourself, that life indeed is precious and you deserve to be loved by someone who knows your worth.
