It hadn’t even been 24 hours since the Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah’s arrest, and now he’s out on bail. After being involved in guiding his son Mihir Shah to escape, who allegedly killed a 45-year-old woman, he ran and is still untraceable. The father was arrested.
Another saddening case like the Pune Porsce is in the headlines. In the early morning hours of July 7th, an incident on the roads of Worli happened. An overspeeding BMW car driven under the influence of alcohol by 24-year-old Mihir Shah (the son of senior leader Rajesh Shah from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena) abruptly hit the Nakhawa couple, who were on their way back from Sassoon dock. The BMW was so speedy that when it crashed into the two-wheeler, the couple flew over the car’s bonnet. The husband managed to free himself from there, but Kaveri Nakhawa, the 45-year-old wife, was dragged by the BMW, resulting in her death. The car was then abandoned, and the accused went absconding. The police still remain unsuccessful in tracing him.
When the police started investigating, the car was found registered in the Palghar division’s Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah’s name. After investigation, it was discovered that Mahir Shah tried damaging the car’s number plate, and even attempts at scratching off the Shiv Sena sticker were made. The police found out. There were several calls between Mahir Shah and his father minutes before the accused went missing. The police believe the political leader has a huge hand in hiding the accused somewhere.
ARREST OF SHIV SENA LEADER
A case was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sahita on culpable homicide, amounting to murder, attempt to destroy the evidence, rash driving, and other Motor Vehicles Act’s provisions. For not cooperating and giving false statements to manipulate the truth, the police arrested Shiv Sena leader and his driver, Raj Rishi, who was allegedly in the car at the time of the accident.
The police arrested the father, aiming to learn more about Mahir Shah’s hideout, but It wasn’t even 24 since that, and the father of Mahir Shah was temporarily granted bail by the Mumbai court at a bond of 15000 rupees. It is said that the non-cruciality of the sections imposed on the accused father has resulted in his bail. What kind of link Rajesh Shah had with the entire hit-and-run incident has not yet been revealed, and so the accused father is currently out on bail.
VICTIM’S HUSBAND STATEMENT
The victim’s husband, Pradeep Nkhwa, is out of danger now. He recalled the event that led to his wife’s death. He said, “We were riding at a speed of 30-35 when the speeding BMW crashed into our scooter from beside us,” also revealing about the driver pressing brakes, due to which he fell off the car. He expressed his heartbreaking remorse for not being able to save his wife.
“I have two children; if the driver had stopped the car, my wife would be alive today.”.
Where is Mihir Shah?
The Mumbai police are still in Mahir Shah’s search, but no traces of him have yet been found. During the remand hearing, the police said that Rajesh Shah instructed his son to escape from the site. The accused father was the only stable way to find him, but he was granted bail by a local court. To prevent Mahir from running out of the country, the police have also increased the security at the airports. The girlfriend of Mihir is also being interrogated, as the police believe that she actually gave him refuge briefly.
The official statements given by the authority till now, assuring to find the absconding accused soon, and the continued delay in his arrest have made the people question their credibility. Comparing this case to the previous Pune Porche and remembering the 300-word essay judgment, the criminal justice system is being called out on social media for showing negligence toward VIP brats in such cases.
