Narendra Modi, on Sunday, June 9, may take the swearing-in oath of office as Prime Minister of India, according to reports. It was previously announced that he would be sworn in one day early.
On Wednesday, ahead of his oath ceremony, Modi sent his letter of resignation to President Droupadi Murmu. While he agreed on resigning as Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the President asked him to hold onto his position until the next administration took office.
Additionally, earlier in the day, it was announced that Chandrababu Naidu, the leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), who was scheduled to take the oath of office as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, would now do so on June 12. The swearing ceremony for Narendra Modi, which was initially scheduled for this Saturday, June 8, caused the date change.
Modi’s oath ceremony is expected to be attended by a number of foreign leaders, making it an event to remember. These include, among others, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, President Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka, and Premier Pushpa Kamal Dahal of Nepal.
In the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led NDA narrowly avoided becoming the majority party by securing 293 out of 543 seats. Defying exit poll expectations, the INDIA alliance won 234 seats, including a spectacular showing in BJP strongholds Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
According to sources, Narendra Modi presided over the final meeting of the Modi 2.0 Cabinet and Council of Ministers on Wednesday. During the meeting, he reviewed the election results and talked about issues pertaining to the creation of the next administration. He presided over an NDA meeting later that night to discuss the specifics of government formation.
Bangladesh and Sri Lankan Leaders To Attend Oath Ceremony of PM Narendra Modi In Delhi
Following a crucial meeting in Delhi yesterday, where his allies elected him as their leader, Narendra Modi is scheduled to take the oath of office as prime minister for the third time in a row. Giving regards to the government’s neighbourhood first, prominent South Asian leaders have been invited to the oath ceremony.
Following a phone conversation with PM Modi, representatives from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have already confirmed their attendance at the event. The Sri Lankan president’s office announced in a media statement that he has accepted the invitation to the event, and congratulated Prime Minister Modi on winning the election.
Bangladesh’s prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, was one of the first international leaders to congratulate PM Modi, demonstrating the cordial and intimate relationship between the two figures. The day before the event, she is expected to arrive in Delhi, as reported by Bangladeshi media.
It has also been reported that formal invitations have been given to Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth of Mauritius, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ of Nepal, and his colleague Tshering Tobgay of Bhutan.
With 293 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats, the NDA has easily surpassed the magic number, while the BJP, with 240 seats, has fallen short of the halfway point.
At their meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence yesterday, the NDA partners—Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party and Nitish Kumar, the leader of Janata Dal-United—unanimously selected Prime Minister Modi to lead the coalition.
The leaders of the SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) nations attended PM Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in 2014, while the leaders of the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) nations attended his oath ceremony in 2019.
