Nawab Singh Yadav, a prominent leader and former block pramukh of the Samajwadi Party, was taken into custody on Monday following allegations of attempting to rape a 15-year-old girl in Kannauj, which is also the parliamentary constituency of party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

The Uttar Pradesh police received a distress call on the 112 helpline at approximately 1:30 am on Monday. According to Kannauj Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Kumar Anand, a girl reported being stripped and an attempt of assault made on her around 1:30 am last night. Taking knowledge of the call, the local police and PRV teams immediately reached the spot.

Upon reaching the crime scene, the police rescued the 15-year-old and arrested Yadav, who was found in an “objectionable” state. A local court has remanded him to a 14-day judicial custody.

During questioning, the girl told the police that her paternal aunt took her to Yadav’s residence on Sunday night as she desperately needed a job opportunity. As her aunt went to the washroom, Yadav disrobed the girl and tried to force himself on her. When the woman returned, she found Yadav in his innerwear and immediately called the police.

“Following the complaint, an FIR has been filed under the appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act. The individual accused in the case has been taken into custody, and the legal process is ongoing.”

Nawab Singh statement

Nawab Singh Yadav has described his arrest as a “capitalist conspiracy” and has refuted all the accusations.

He stated, “This is a capitalist conspiracy. Despite the victim’s denial, medical tests have been conducted six times. We are committed to resisting injustice.”

Samajwadi party response

As soon as reports of Nawab Singh’s arrest emerged, the Samajwadi Party took immediate steps to sever any association with the leader. Kaleem Khan, the District President of Kannauj, made it clear that Singh does not have any official ties with the party.

“It is important to clarify that Nawab Singh Yadav, son of Chandan Singh Yadav, a resident of Addangapur, is not a member of the Samajwadi Party. Despite attempts to link him with the party, he has been engaged in anti-party activities for years and is not connected with us in any capacity,”

BJP slamming Samajwadi Party

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unleashed a strong attack on the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Tuesday, alleging that they have been providing protection to criminals and showing a lack of empathy towards victims of serious crimes in Uttar Pradesh.

BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi specifically targeted the SP, accusing them of covering up the criminal activities of their leaders. He stated “Nawab Singh Yadav is not just any SP leader; he has been a representative of MP Dimple Yadav. Under SP’s policy that ‘boys will be boys,’ such crimes are consistently covered up. First, it was Ayodhya’s Moid Khan, and now it’s Kannauj’s Nawab Singh Yadav. This is the true character of SP.”

Additionally, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi criticized the growing political influence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, alleging that it has emboldened criminals in Uttar Pradesh. Trivedi accused the Samajwadi Party of safeguarding criminals and condemned the arrest of individuals associated with the party who have been charged with serious criminal offenses. He emphasized that the increased power of these political figures has led to a rise in criminal audacity.

He said Those who talked about ‘do ladke’ during the elections are now seeing that the people linked to them are committing crimes. Since these two have gained more power, the boldness of criminals has increased as well.

Nawab Singh Yadav has a substantial legal record, with 16 cases filed against him at the Kannauj City Police Station and Tirwa Police Station. These cases involve grave allegations including attempted murder and multiple violations under the Goonda Act.
