NDA Poised for Victory: Exit Polls Predict Landslide Win for BJP-Led Alliance in Lok Sabha Elections

3

Most of the exit polls have predicted that the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is set to win at least 350 seats in the Lok Sabha Assembly elections this year.

The last phase of elections was held on June 1. Exit polls are primarily used to determine which party has the support of voters. They also provide insight into the predicted number of seats a party or alliance could win. The polls have projected that the NDA government will return for another term, winning two-thirds of the majority. The Lok Sabha Election results will be announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday, June 4.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence that the people of India have turned out in record numbers to reelect the NDA government, as he stated in a post on X. Modi accused the opportunistic INDI Alliance of failing to connect with voters, describing them as casteist, communal, and corrupt. He added that the alliance, formed to protect a few dynasties, could not offer a forward-looking vision for the country.

West Bengal Exit Polls

Several exit poll predictions state that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will secure 18-21 seats out of 42 and that the NDA will likely win 18-21 more than the TMC in West Bengal.

Mamta Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, has expressed her displeasure regarding the exit polls. She claims that the exit surveys were created two months ago by a few individuals at home for media consumption and are “worthless.”. She also accused the BJP of polarization by spreading misinformation about Muslims “taking away” the quotas of Other Backward Classes (OBC), Scheduled Caste (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST).

Regarding the prospects of the INDIA bloc, she commented that leaders like Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, M K Stalin, and Uddhav Thackeray will perform strongly since regional parties thrive across the board.  Furthermore, she was asked whether her connections with the CPI(M) and Congress would affect her likelihood of joining the central government if the INDIA bloc won. Banerjee responded, “See, every regional party has its own respect, and after talking to everyone, if we are invited, we will go.

On the other hand, the BJP president for West Bengal stated that his party would secure at least 25 seats in West Bengal and not accept anything less than 30 seats.

Kerala Exit Polls

In Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front and CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) will bag 15-18 seats, while the NDA is expected to win 1-3 seats in the state out of 20 Lok Sabha constituencies. This would be a landmark win for the NDA since Kerala has been a Congress territory in the past. In the 2019 elections, the NDA did not win a single seat, while Congress had a sweeping win.

The competition between Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and BJP candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar from Thiruvananthapuram is intensifying since the exit polls predict that Tharoor might lose his seat.

The Congress MP stated that the exit polls could be mystifying. He recalled his experience during the 2019 elections when a prominent newspaper in Kerala published a front-page article citing an exit poll indicating his loss. In contrast, he won by a margin of 1 lakh.

According to him, even in the worst-case scenario, Congress and the Opposition will perform much better than the 2014 and 2019 elections.
