NEET UG 2024 paper leak accusations get an altering turn as four men from Bihar get arrested on Thursday. Among those arrested from Bihar are Anurag Yadav, a hopeful student aiming to sit for the NEET exam; Sikandar Yadavendu, a junior engineer employed at the Danapur municipal council; along with two associates identified as Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand.

In their statement to the Bihar police, they acknowledged receiving the examination questions a day prior to the test and committing them to memory. Anurag Yadav described the sequence of events, stating, “I was instructed to study and memorise the questions overnight. Upon arriving for the exam, I encountered the exact questions that I had memorised. Subsequently, the police apprehended me after the exam, and I admitted to my offence.”

Yadavendu revealed that Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand assured him they could obtain leaked exam papers for a substantial sum of Rs 30-32 lakh per candidate to ensure success in NEET.”I agreed and informed them I had four boys requiring assistance to pass the exam. On the night of June 4, I accompanied them, and Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand provided them with the question paper. Due to greed, I also requested Rs 40 lakh each instead of the agreed Rs 30 lakh,” he stated, as reported by NDTV.His complicity surfaced when police discovered damning evidence, such as the students’ admit cards, during a routine vehicle inspection the next day.

Anurag’s scorecard issued by the National Testing Agency indicates that he achieved 185 marks out of 720, with a total percentile score of approximately 54.84. However, a closer examination of his scores in individual subjects reveals significant discrepancies. Anurag scored 85.8 percentile in Physics, 51 percentile in Biology, and a mere 5 percentile in Chemistry. Given his admission that he received the questions a day before the exam, these scores imply that he may not have had sufficient time to memorize the answers for the Chemistry section.

He acknowledged that the leaked paper he obtained was identical to the official exam paper, heightening concerns about the integrity of the examination process

Past updates regarding NEET UG 2024

The Supreme Court has ruled to revoke the grace marks awarded to 1,563 students, who will now have the chance to take a retest scheduled for June 23, 2024. The results of this retest are expected to be announced around June 30, 2024. This decision follows the recommendation of a government committee tasked with reviewing the distribution of grace marks among these candidates.

Students who choose not to participate in the retest will retain their original scores, adjusted to exclude the previously awarded grace marks.A petition was submitted to the Supreme Court on May 5, 2024, alleging irregularities such as malpractice and paper leak during a national-level examination. If proven true by the court, such a paper leak could potentially be regarded as a violation of Article 14, which guarantees the right to equality under the Constitution.

The examination took place on May 5, 2024, with participation from more than 2.4 million candidates across the nation. The results were declared on June 4, 2024, coinciding with the announcement of the Lok Sabha election results. Following the announcement, it was observed that approximately 67 candidates shared the top spot in the All India rankings. Several candidates benefited from grace marks, while a notable number received scores exceeding 710, a scenario deemed implausible.
