“NEITHER RESPECTS KASHMIRIYAT NOR UPHOLDS JAMHURIYAT”: Kharge Criticizes BJP on the Fifth Anniversary of Article 370 Abrogation

Kharge was criticizing the centre on 5th anniversary of the abrogation of the Article 370 in Jammu &Kashmir , Indian National Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday said the BJP neither respects “’Kashmiriyat’ nor upholds ‘Jamhuriyat’(democracy)”.

Kharge targeted Modi Government after Repeal of Article 370

In a post on X, Kharge said on criticizing the centre that Modi Govt claimed that this move would help to full integrate Jammu &Kashmir, boost economic development of the reign and prevent terrorism and separatism. Kharge claimed that “the reality is starkly different” and he pointed out some unresolved problems and said “Since 2019, there have martyrdom of 258 security personnel and the loss occurred in the Jammu region since PM Modi’s third oath, claiming the lives of 15 soldiers and injuring 27.

He claimed that “targeted Killings of Kashmiri Pandits have become a norm” in the past few year he further added during congress ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra, the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh conveyed to Rahul Gandhi that they “yearn for normalcy.”

Kharge pointed out issue of Jammu and Kashmir

“A staggering 65 per cent of government department posts in Jammu & Kashmir remain vacant since 2019. The unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir stands at 10 percent, with an alarming 18.3 percent youth unemployment rate. Despite of the New Industrial policy in 2021, a mere 3 percent of investment have materialized on the ground. 40 percent of projects under the PM Development Package, 2015, remain pending. Jammu and Kashmir’s net state domestic product (NSDP) growth rate has declined from 13.28 percent (April2015-March2019) to 8.73 percent post 2019, “he mentioned.

Demands of Congress in Jammu and Kashmir

The Congress chief further demanded that election in Jammu and Kashmir must be held according to the Supreme Court’s set deadline which is of September 30. “So that people can elect their representatives, secure Constitutional rights, and put a full stop to this mechanism of being “ruled by bureaucracy”. The Indian National Congress stand firmly with the part of India,” he added.

PM Modi Ushers in New Era for Jammu and Kashmir

On August 5, 2019, the Narendra Modi-led Union government read down Article 370, taking Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and statehood, and splitting it into two Union Territories. The past five years have seen sweeping changes, glaring rights abuses and big developments in the region. On the fifth anniversary of the repeal of Articles 370 and 35(A), in a tweet on social media site X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that “Today marks 5 years since the Parliament of India agreed to repeal Articles 370 and 35(A), a watershed moment in our country’s history. It marked the beginning of a new age of development and wealth in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. It meant that the Indian Constitution was implemented in these locations in letter and spirit, in accordance with the vision of the great men and women who made constitution.
