In a surprising move that has left fans disappointed, Netflix has announced the cancellation of its popular series, “That ’90s Show.” The spin-off series, which premiered in 2023, served as a continuation of the beloved “That ’70s Show” and followed a new generation of teenagers growing up in Point Place, Wisconsin. Despite positive reviews and a dedicated fanbase, “That ’90s Show” has been unable to maintain the same level of viewership as its predecessor. While the exact reasons for the cancellation remain unclear, industry experts speculate that a combination of factors may have contributed to the decision.

One potential reason could be the increasing competition in the streaming landscape. With numerous original series and movies being released each week, it can be challenging for any show to stand out and attract a large audience. Additionally, the high production costs associated with television series can make it difficult to justify continued investment if viewership numbers do not meet expectations

Kurtwood Smith (Director of That 90s show)

The news was announced by franchise star Kurtwood Smith who took to Instagram to share the news. “I know you have been asking me when Season 3 is coming, but I have tough news…Netflix will not be renewing. I just want to take a minute to say THANK YOU to all of the fans everywhere who supported and watched the show. You have come up to me in random parts of the world when I’m traveling and reached out to me through social media and have just been so wonderful. I’ve loved every minute of getting to bring Grandpa Red to life for you all. I’ve said it before but it’s worth mentioning again…this show had so much heart behind it and the most wonderful cast, writers, directors, producers, and crew an actor could hope to work with.” he wrote

The news of the cancellation has come as a shock to many fans who were hoping to see the series continue for several more seasons. Many have taken to social media to express their disappointment and to call for a possible revival. While it is uncertain whether Netflix will reconsider its decision, the possibility of a future continuation cannot be ruled out. In the meantime, fans of “That ’90s Show” can still enjoy the two seasons that are currently available on Netflix. The series offers a nostalgic trip back to the 1990s and features a talented cast of young actors.
