Following the grand victory in Euro Championship 2024 , the Catalunya club is looking to sign Nico Williams, the club under their new manager Hansi Flick is looking for a way to shape the club. Having signed Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig for 60 million dollars, they have set their eyes on Nico Williams, winger from Athletic Club. 

The transfer of Nico Williams in Barcelona was in news since early summer, but as the Euro Championship unfolded, and Spain reached semi finals and finals. Nico Williams partnership with Lamine Yamal worked like a charm and Williams instantly became Barca’s favourite. 

Barcelona’s web of debt and dilemma

The financial situation of Barcelona is disastrous, no doubt, and it has put strain on the working of the club and the management are looking for possible solutions. With Xavi gone and the appointment of a new manager, Barcelona is looking forward to a new direction under Hansi Flick. After losing the 256th edition of La Liga to their popular rival Real Madrid, Barca’s management revealed their finance house is lacking, they do not have sufficient funds to even sign contracts for their existing players, let alone sign new players. 

The wage bill of Barcelona was around 700 million dollars, and that of Rea Madrid was 400 million. While Real Madrid could cope with their expenses, with their newly signed Kyalin Mbappe from PSG, the club seems in proper shape and full glory. Barca’s poor management and excess expenditures had cost them a financial debt.

With satellite rights and in-house stake production, or let go of some top players from the team like Lewandowski, Fermin. Barcelona is trying to pave their way in fixing their debt. 

William’s reunion with Yamal

After the breakthrough of Williams and Yamal in Euro 2024, this starry duo led Spain to the finals. With William’s two goals and one assist, he was in the talks of the game. 

The contract of Nico Williams with Athletic Bilbao has a buy out clause of 53 million dollars. There were reports from Chelsea FC that they were also interested in the Bilbao winger. 

Lamine Yamal has said in many interviews that he shares a father and son bonding with Williams and it has been confirmed by the winger that Yamal is indeed like a father figure to him. 

With their friendship, sportsmanship and partnership, FC Barcelona is taking a chance to partner this duo together in La Liga, at least the rival clubs could brace themselves for the potential threat. 

The future of Nico Williams in Barcelona

Nico Williams and Barcelona both are interested in each other and Barca is likely to sign Williams by the end of summer. There has been a conjecture with the team players and their contracts, but despite that, departures would be made from the team, like Julian Araujo is moving to Bournemouth, Sergio Roberts, Barca captain is also transferring, as reports say. 

Williams hasn’t clarified anything but he is really excited and looking forward to his future, hints had already been dropped that he is moving to Barcelona. The Spanish winger would remain in Athletic Bilbao till 2027, as per his contract.
