Pakistan Cricket Slips From Bad to Worse; Pak Cricket Board on trouble

Following the team’s dismal performances, questions over Board’s position and competency is increasing.

Pakistan cricket was thoroughly embarrassed by its performance in the 2023 Asia Cup, its inability to advance to the ODI World Cup semifinals, and its group-stage loss from this year’s T20 World Cup.

Pakistan has struggled in the longest format ever since Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, and others retired.

Now, it appears that everything said above has led to an even worse humiliation for Pakistan as they lost their first-ever Test match at home against Bangladesh, a side that isn’t regarded as one of the strongest teams and has a dismal record in Tests played abroad.

In the opening Test match of the series, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets on Sunday in Rawalpindi, recording their first-ever Test victory over the country. Bangladesh needed 30 runs to take the first wicket in the two-test series after Pakistan, who had declared their first innings on 448-6, was bowled out for 146 in their second innings.

Pakistan has struggled in the longest format ever since players like as Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan retired. However, their performance has progressively declined in all formats, especially during the last two years. They did place second in the 2022 T20 World Cup, but only because South Africa gave them a great favor by losing to them in the group stage. Otherwise, Pakistan would not even have advanced to the T20 Cup semifinals after losing to Zimbabwe and India.

Criticism Everywhere;

Following the devastating 10-wicket loss to Bangladesh in the first Test match at Rawalpindi, Pakistani batsman Ahmad Shahzad criticized Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), for his management of the squad. Shahzad questioned Naqvi’s comprehension of cricket and voiced dissatisfaction with his leadership choices, bringing up Pakistan’s historic first-ever Test loss to Bangladesh in particular.

Former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Khalid Mahmood told The Media on Monday from Lahore, “Unfortunately, the kind of administrators who have been in and given the charge of the Board don’t even know the basics of cricket.”

“There are much too many people—actually more than what is necessary—in our nation’s cricket board. And those individuals just use their political positions and powers; they have no other knowledge. The internal discord among them is also eroding the Board’s organizational framework. Disgusted, Mahmood, who headed Pakistan Cricket Board from 1998 to 1999, remarked, “Those people neither act themselves nor let others do what’s necessary.”

“For the last two-three years, there have been frequent changes in the top hierarchy of the PCB. Due to that, the Board operations department got confused and couldn’t work properly,” stated former Pakistan manager and selector Haroon Rasheed.

Following a terrible T20 World Cup campaign, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi claimed that Pakistan cricket required a “major surgery.” Now, he’s stating that a lack of depth in the talent pool is the reason for the national team’s struggles. A day after Pakistan lost their first-ever Test match against Bangladesh, Naqvi made these remarks.
