The Ex-PM of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has called for protests carried by the members of his party, Pakistan Tareek-e-Insaf (PTI) to release the detained party leaders.
Arrest of Imraan and the Leaders
The Ex-PM was arrested on 5th August, 2023 on the charges of Toshakhana corruption case filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan. Later, he was also accused of various other inter related scams and cases, as a result of which he has been behind the bars since then. Khan was granted bail long back, yet has been kept captive due to political instability.
The Punjab Department Police raided PTI leader Raja Bhasharat’s residence at Rawalpindi. Many other politicians mainly PTI leaders including Javed Iqbal have been arrested for causing violence, disrupting social security, etc. Mehr Neemullah also was attempted to be arrested by the Police in Lahore but got only five of his friends, whreras the politician escaped the premises.
Pakistan Tareek-e-Insaaf’s election foresight
The boost for protests’ decision was fueled by Supreme Court’s verdict of 12th July, declaring PTI as a legitimate political party, capable of contesting elections this time. The party is also been allotted with reservation seats for women and non-Muslims in both national as well as provincial assemblies. The party has now regained its strength to set a comeback in the upcoming elections and thus is preparing hard to release its important leaders out of jail including Imran Khan as well.
PTI Secretary Gen. Omar Ayub Khan said that the workers of the party must get ready for the next elections, also asserting that the election are as near as November as the current gov’t has failed. The protests will be in states of Lahore, capital Islamabad as well as regions of Karachi. The capital’s police force have enforced section 144 and tight security measures for Red Zone regions which includes residences of gov’t officials and embassies.
This protest, if held out in an outrageous manner, or if gets out of hands for security departments and agencies, is to surely attract international attention amid economic as well as political crisis that are prolonged consistently and adversely affecting the diaspora as well.
