‘Pegasus’ : Apple’s Developing Search Engine To Compete With Google

After Apple’s iPhone 15 launch, the tech giant is also developing its own search engine ‘Pegasus’ to rival Google. They are working to upgrade its own search Engine to replace Google Search engine from its devices. According to reports, there have been discussions between Apple and Microsoft about the possibilities of joining hands to work together on this venture.

 Apple’s Pegasus

Apple being one of the Big Tech companies in the world has all the capabilities to introduce new features and innovative functions. For an extended period of time, they have been working on its own Search Engine. Currently all the devices of iOS and macOS use Google as the default Search Engine in Safari browser, which comes preinstalled with the devices and now they are aiming to replace it with its very own Pegasus.

The company has already built its own Search Engines for apps such as App Store, Maps, Apple TV, News and Spotlight. Following this, Apple believes that developing its own search engine – Pegasus will potentially improve the performance for the various apps within.

Adding to this, the development team of tech giant led by Gianandrea is planning to integrate the Search Engine into iOS and macOS and enhance it further by using generative AI tools.

Benefits to Apple

Apple is climbing stairs by introducing new apps and features. In the previous year, it launched business Connect, a tool that flooded its Information Database about the businesses, their working hours and location which helped it to compete with Google.

As they has adopted a strategy of Developing both software and hardware in its own-house. Its own Search Engine might help to earn greater revenues.

By using its own search engine in Safari, Apple will have all the advertising space. This can be a good source for obtaining funds for the company. Speaking on this Garman said that the possibility of this happening is less.’

Apple’s has its own advertising team and the features provided by it such as News, Weather which also distributes Ads. In other words, Apple has all the necessary technology, resources to build its own Search Engine. Combining all of this will lead the company to launch the Search Engine soon or later.

Apple And Google Partnership

In 2002, Google was first used as the default Search Engine in safari browser. In 2020, Google paid them a whopping sum of $4 billion to have Safari’s Browser use their search Engine.

Apple’s senior vice president Eddy Cue has claimed that Apple and Google have a revenue sharing deal dating back in 2002.

Apple currently makes around $8 billion annually owing to its deal with Google which makes the company’s software the default search engine on all products like iPhones, iPads.

Google’s Dominance

Google Search was introduced back in 1997, since then it has been the dominating search engine in the market. Speaking technically, it picks sites faster than any other search engine. There are many other Search Engines such as Yahoo, Bing, Baidu but Google has been widely adopted in the world, also because of it’s efficiency and features.

Apple has been using Google search as the default search engine for a long time. They opted for Google as they always thought it was the best and they wanted best for their customers too.

It will be challenging for them to replace Google as the default search engine. In the long run, Google may be the best option. Apple has already designed its own chips, App Store, Maps and is planning to develop a full-blown search engine but it won’t be launched anytime soon.
