What is a Pier and How does it contribute to bringing in the aid?

A pier is a coastal structure to access the marine shipment. The Gazan Pier was patronized by the American government in aid to the widespread famine.

Two miles away from the coast two floating platforms and a pier acting as the causeway on the coast sums up the structure of Gazan Pier. The bigger deposit of supplies is dropped at the floating platform, and from there on the pier the American troops unload the shipment and drive away.

Damage and causes

A Video Posted by IDF (Israeli defense forces)circulated on the platform ‘X’ (Formerly Twitter) ‘the pier sinking in water’ (ideally not known the height of sinking) earlier this month. The audio involved a statement by someone saying, “This is what happens when you help the enemy” sourced by an outlet.

On Friday before the damage, Pier Way brought nearly 820 metric tons of food to Gazan shores however the USA showed concern over How aid coming through only the marine way isn’t sufficient enough for over 1.8 million of the remaining starving population. The Rafah attack has furthermore contributed to worsening the condition by blocking roadways for Aid Trucks to reach the needful places. Additionally, America is exploring Airdrop food as an option.

The Pier is known to be damaged because of weather changes and rough seas. Some parts of the Pier are said to be separated. The Pier operation had brought around 900 tons of food to the Gazan coast according to a WFP Spokesperson.

The repairment and re-anchoring of the Gazan Pier

Sabrina Singh, A Pentagon Spokesperson informed that the pier would be sent to an Israeli city ‘Ashdod’ in 48 hours to be repaired. Further, she added, “The repairing and rebuilding of the pier would take at least a week. It will then be re-anchored on the Gazan coast. Thus, upon completion of the pier repair and reassembly, the intention is to re-anchor the temporary pier to the coast of Gaza and resume humanitarian aid to the people who need it most”

Effects

The major effects would be shown in the Gazan population as the region is suffering from Famine while the recent Rafah attack which has caused several deaths appears as a catastrophe intensifying the existing poor condition of the state.

Meanwhile, Humanitarian Help sent by allies is being suspended on the roadways because of the ongoing fight, less than 174 trucks were only able to supply the aid in 2 weeks, informed a source, earlier. It is nearly considered impossible to bring in help through the roadway.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another because of the bad weather and the rough sea, the broken pier cannot deliver the significant help it provided earlier. The ways to deliver the help have been suspended while Israel’s ongoing attacks over the region. The allies are exploring ways to send help and the option of Airdropping the necessities is something they’re exploring.
