PM Modi concluded his maiden visit to Ukraine for a brief period of time visiting the capital of Ukraine and had talks with the President Volodymr Zelenskyy. The visit of the Prime Minister to the conflict-worn country comes after the President had invited him to the country.
The Talks between two leaders:
In the bilateral talks which the PM held with Zelenskyy, he told him that Russia and Ukraine should have a talk together to put an end to the conflict and also reiterated that India has been always supportive of the peace ever since the conflict began.
PM Modi also said that India will also play a proactive role to ensure that peace prevails in Ukraine and also said that he would personally like to contribute to ensure that the conflict ends.
PM’s visit to other places:
PM Modi also paid a visit to pay his tribute at the Multimedia martyrologist Exposition for Children at the National Museum of History of Ukraine.
He also made a visit to Oasis of Peace park while paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.
PM Modi also gave BHISHIM which is a cube.(Bharat Health Initiative for Shayog Hita and Maitiri) to the government of Ukraine.
He also interacted with the Ukrainian students who are currently studying at the Oriental Studies school who are learning and studying the Hindi language at Kyiv. He appreciated the efforts to promote India’s culture and history while bringing them closer to the citizens of Ukraine.
Historic Visit:
The President of Ukraine had also said that history is being etched as Prime Minister Modi made his first visit to Ukraine ever since the independence of the European country. He also said that they have also signed 4 documents which are on a wide range of fields.
The visit of PM Modi is not only historic because he visited at the time of the Russia-Ukraine conflict but also this is the first time an Indian PM has visited the place, ever since Ukraine got independence in 1991. The visit of the PM to the war-torn Ukraine was for a period of 9 hours, in the short-span, he held discussions with the Ukraine President.
PM Modi also invited President Zelenskyy to India which was extended even as the two leaders were engaging in diplomatic conversations. President Zelenskyy also reacted to the invitation by the PM and said that he will be very delighted to visit a great country.
The same was reiterated by External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar who also said the same about the invitation in a press briefing which followed after the talks of Modi and Zelenskyy. The Minister said while speaking to the media that it’s significant that their Prime Minister has made a visit to Ukraine for the first time since 1992 and it’s obvious that he would extend an invitation. The Minister also said that they do expect at some point of time as per the convenience of the President Zelenskyy, he would make a visit to India.
President Zelenskyy who also spoke at the media briefing at a later point of time also said that he would be happy to come to India. He said that when there’s a strategic partnership, one needs not waste time and do a big pause. While talking about India he said that he has read and described India as a big and great country. He also said that he needs India by their side. Before visiting Ukraine, he was visiting Poland and went to Ukraine by train.
Comes after visit to Russia:
PM’s visit to war-torn Ukraine came after he visited Russia where he embraced President Putin which drew stark criticism. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been going since February 2022.
