PM Modi will mark visit to Ukraine on August 23:

In a first, PM Modi will be visiting Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, on 23rd August and will be holding talks with President Zelenskyy. The visit comes after the war had broken out. This will be the first visit by an Indian PM in Ukraine even as the bilateral relations began over 30 years ago.

PM Modi to visit Poland first:

However, before embarking on a visit to Kyiv, PM Modi will be visiting Poland on a 2-day visit from 21st August-22nd August. The visit of the Prime Minister to the country is historic as well as crucial because he’s the first Prime Minister to visit Poland in the period of 45 years.  After that, he will cross over to Ukraine.

MEA on PM’s visit:

Tanmaya Lal who’s the Secretary West of the MEA told that PM Modi will be visiting Ukraine on 23rd August which is later this week which is on the invitation of the President Volodymr Zelenskyy and this is a crucial visit as an Indian PM would be visiting the country after a long period of 30 years.

MEA also said that India has always been supportive of diplomacy and of the talks when it comes to solving the conflict in Ukraine. He said that they have always maintained a constant stance that dialogue and diplomacy can only resolve the conflict. Peace can be gained through the options which are acceptable to both parties and which can be negotiated.

MEA also said that Prime Minister Modi also had held talks with both heads of Russia and Ukraine. They are ready to provide solutions to the complicated conflict at hand. They also said that it is not for them to draw conclusions; the result of these discussions will be between the leaders of both countries while referring to India and Ukraine.

Ukraine President Zelenskyy’s office also issued a statement stating that PM Modi will be visiting Ukraine on the National Flag Day of Ukraine which is on 23rd August. The statement also said that this would be the first visit of an Indian PM to the country in the history of their bi-lateral relations. The statement also talked about talks which will be held in the context of bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The statement also said that it also expects that there will be signing of documents between both of the countries.

PM’s visit to Russia:

In July, PM Modi had visited Russia in a significant one which was marked by a visible bonhomie between the both leaders of the country. However, the bonhomie didn’t go well with the west. The US and Ukraine had criticized the visit of PM Modi visiting Russia.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy had strongly condemned the meeting as it had coincided with an attack on various cities in Ukraine and also a major attack on the children’s hospital. The leader also described the meeting as a ‘huge disappointment’ and also described it as a ‘huge blow’ to the efforts of peace and see the leader of the largest democracy embracing the world’s gory criminal while referring to Putin.

India’s stance on the crisis:

Ever since the conflict has broken out between Russia and Ukraine, India has always had a neutral stance on the conflict. India has always pushed that dialogue and diplomacy are only the way to resolve the crisis, though not condemning Russia or not being part of the sanctions against the Russian President. Delhi has stated that its relations with Moscow are the outcome of a long-term relationship. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been ongoing for 2 years.
