Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi met N. Biren Singh who is the Chief Minister of Manipur on July 28, Sunday. This meeting was the first one-on-one encounter since the ethnic violence began in Manipur

The meeting came into picture because of PM Modi’s second day of meetings with all the chief ministers from BJP. It took place in the BJP Headquarters in New Delhi.

According to a senior official, N. Biren Singh had a private conversation with PM Modi for around 20 Minutes. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were also a part of this private meeting.

According to the same official, The burning ethnic violence happening in Manipur were discussed and further details of the meeting may come out in the following days.

Since neither the Manipur government nor the BJP government has given any official comment about the details of the meeting, it’s assumed that significance of the meeting was the ongoing ethnic clashes that have boiled in Manipur since May 2023.

Approximately 230 people have already died and around 50,000 got displaced in the ethnic violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities. However the intensity of the conflict has decreased, tensions carry on with both the groups segregated in two different districts.

The visit of the CM of Manipur to New Delhi included meetings with other BJP leaders, including JP Nadda and various other Union ministers. They did not share any photos or videos or details of the meeting.

A broader perspective was also discussed during the two-day meetings. Modi wanted this meeting to emphasize the government’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ agenda requesting for cooperation between central and state governments to achieve the development goals by the year 2047.

PM Modi stressed the significance of public participation in welfare measures and also highlighted the government’s aim to make India a $5 trillion economy. These meetings also focused on the communication strategies towards these developmental projects.

Chief Ministers of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh with the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra discussed strategies to reach the economic target. These discussions included promotion of tourism and employment opportunities.
