The Prime Minister visited Telangana on Sunday to lay the foundation stone of a huge developmental project, but State CM K Chandrashekhar Rao was not present to attend the program. Why?
Developmental projects worth 13,500 crore:
The news was released from the PMO office earlier this day that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be launching a developmental project including multiple sectors of the economy that is worth 13,500 crore. The notable sectors were roads, railways, oil & natural gas and education.
Nagpur-Vijayawada Economic Corridor:
The significant projects that are covered under this program include key road projects like Nagpur-Vijayawada Economic Corridor. This four-lane project is 405 km long which will be laid down along Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh territories. Primary goal behind this project is to increase port connectivity and thus boost exports. Estimated combined cost for this project is 7500 crore and the deadline is set to be 2027.
Another four-lane road project is to be constructed from Suryapet to Khammam which is a small part of NH-365BB. This project will cost up to 2500 crore rupees. “This project is a small section under Hyderabad – Visakhapatnam Corridor. It will increase connectivity to Khammam district and benefit the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh.
BPCL’s petroleum pipeline:
PMO also stated about an important project for oil and pipeline. This project will be completed under Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL). This multi-product petroleum pipeline will be laid down from Krishnapatnam to Hyderabad.
Education sector:
Last but the very important sector that will be covered under this development project is Education. As per ANI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate five new campuses on ‘University of Hyderabad’. Those new buildings are namely: ‘School of Mathematics and Stats, School of Economics, School of Management Studies, 3rd Lecture Hall Complex, and Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication’.
Political Significance:
Telangana is set to go for assembly election polls within next 2-3 months. Narendra Modi’s visit to Telangana was not solely for development purposes but it definitely had political significance. PM Modi addressed a public rally in Mahabubnagar. Several national agencies had already speculated that his speech will start by accusing other parties and then come onto the developmental projects.
PM Modi himself tweeted on X (Earlier Twitter) last night informing citizens about his rally. The tweet also said that “People are tired from the lacklustre governance of BRS. He directly targeted his 2 opposition parties i.e. Congress and BRS. He is also supposed to talk about the development of the nation since 9 years under the NDA government.
Non-cooperation from Telangana’ CM:
The PM Office had already given the timing of Narendra Modi’s arrival i.e. 2:15 PM but the state CM was not present to receive or welcome the PM in the state. PM Modi had already said once that he is “pained by non cooperation” of the BRS government under K Chandrasekhar Rao. Instead of the CM, current Minister of Animal husbandry, Fisheries and Cinematography of Telangana Talasani Srinivas Yadav welcomed the PM and joined him in the official events.
Past references of CM KCR:
It was not the 1st time for the state CM to not welcome the Indian Prime Minister but this time it will be the sixth in a row. CM Chandrasekhar Rao has not attended any official Prime Minister’s events in his state since February 2022. The state CMs are required to be present when the Prime Minister visits the state as per the protocol. But earlier this year in April too, CM was absent at the airport to receive PM Modi even after a proper invite was sent.
