Potential Challenges for King Charles if Meghan and Harry Return to Royal Duties

Following reports that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been invited to Balmoral Palace to
resolve their feud with the Royals, potential issues for King Charles have emerged.

Strained Relations and Public Perception

The Sussexes stepped down from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to Montecito, California.
Since then, they have caused significant tension within the royal family. The interview with
Oprah Winfrey, the Netflix documentary series, and Harry’s memoir, titled “Spare,” have
contributed significantly to the tension. King Charles is said to find it difficult to forgive Prince
Harry.

During an appearance on the Daily Mail’s ‘Palace Confidential’ show on Friday, royal expert
Richard Eden emphasized that there is a limited window for the Sussexes to be reintegrated as
working royals by Prince Harry’s estranged family. “Time is running out to come back while his
father is still King,” Eden remarked, referring to King Charles III, who became king in 2022
after Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.

Eden asserted, “If Harry wants to return at any point, he needs to do it while his father is still
King.”

“They are irrelevant now; they are just not wanted as part of the monarchy. Maybe there could be
some radical change but it’s hard to see,” he stated.

Potential Obstacles to Reconciliation and Forgiveness

In an interview with GB News, Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker discussed the pros and
cons of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK. He suggested that, “Within the
Windsor family, there might be a chance for reconciliation and civil discussions that could lead
to some sort of agreement or at least improve their relations compared to the past few years.

However, regarding their return as working members of the royal family, I don’t think it would
be up to King Charles alone—consider the opinion polls about Harry and Meghan on both sides
of the Atlantic.”

Internal Family Dynamics and Decision-Making

Cameron Walker explained that Prince William and Princess Kate have the authority to decide if
Harry and Meghan should return as working Royals, and King Charles must take their decision
into account if he is to approve their return. Walker added, “I think there’s a clear difference
between King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales because there is some bond still
between Harry and his father.”

Reports from February indicated that the monarch had been considering a temporary return for
Harry. However, there were suggestions that Prince William was reportedly preventing Harry’s
return to safeguard his wife, Kate Middleton, who was reportedly unwell.
