Democratic legislators than ever joined the growing bid to get President Joe Biden to reverse his decision to run for re-election. Biden facing mounting demands to step aside in the presidential campaign, was more defiant than ever, saying that he has prepared himself for next week’s campaign trail to take on the “dark vision” of Republican Donald Trump.

According to Jen O’Malley Dillon, the chairwoman of Joe Biden’s re-election campaign, in the coming week, US President Joe Biden is set to resume his campaign activities. The announcement was made amid the calls from within the Democratic Party for Biden to withdraw from the race. Dillon, during an interview with MSNBC on Friday, confirmed Biden’s commitment to the campaign despite these calls.

Calls for Withdrawal

With almost three dozen Democratic members of Congress adding their voices to those calling on President Joe Biden to step aside immediately after his disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump, Biden has retreated to his Delaware beach house after coming down with COVID-19. Nevertheless, Biden is holed up with family and only a few close aides nearby as he resists mounting efforts to sideline him.

On Friday, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, also a Democrat and also endangered this cycle, joined the call for Biden to bow out. Brown, in a statement, said he was echoing what a lot of people in the state are telling him, “I think the president should end his campaign.”

Joe Biden’s Response to Trump

Following Trump’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, Biden lashed out at what he called a “dark vision for the future.” Biden announced that he plans to pick up the campaign where he left off, assuring that there is a viable way to beat Trump despite concerns among big-name party figures.

The Delaware Senator, Chris Coons, the closest ally of Biden to Congress and campaign co-chair, called on those around to be patient, stating that Biden needed to have private conversations with all caucus members and Democratic leaders. “President Biden deserves the respect to have important family conversations with members of the caucus and colleagues in the House and Senate and Democratic leadership and not be battling leaks and press statements,” Coons told The Associated Press in an interview.

Among those worried about the prospects of Biden are former President Barack Obama and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, who privately told Biden that unless he steps aside, the party could lose control of the House.

On Thursday, New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich became the third Senate Democrat to urge Joe Biden to leave the race, so that his party can rally around somebody who can win and make sure that “we’re not going to have another four years of Donald Trump destroying the fabric of our democracy.”. “By passing the torch, he would secure his legacy as one of our nation’s greatest leaders and allow us to unite behind a candidate who can best defeat Donald Trump and safeguard the future of our democracy,” said Heinrich, who is also up for reelection.
