Prime Minister Modi holds talks with  Russian  President:  Exchanges views on Russia-Ukraine  conflict during Ukraine visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi “exchanged views” on the Russia-Ukraine conflict with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, a day after he spoke with US President Joe Biden and reiterated India’s full support for the ”speedy return of peace and stability”.

Modi shared with Putin his “information from his recent visit to Ukraine”, saying he was strongly committed to a “quick, lasting and peaceful resolution of the conflict”.

In a message on X, Modi also said he discussed steps to further strengthen their  “special and  privileged strategic partnership”.

I spoke with President Putin today. We discussed measures to further strengthen the special and privileged strategic partnership. We exchanged our views on the conflic t between Russia  and Ukraine and my ideas from my recent visit to Ukraine. British India reiterated its firm commitment to support an early settlement,

Modi’s visit to Kiev on August 23 was the first trip by an Indian Prime Minister since  established  ties with the Eastern country. He also assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that India was ready to play an “active role” in any peace effort.

Putin’s “peace” initiatives

According to the Russian account of the conversation between the two leaders, Putin outlined  Russia’s main approaches to resolving the conflict and also gave a “fundamental assessment” of the “destructive line” adopted by Kiev and his partners his western


According to the Kremlin, Modi also confirmed his willingness to participate in the annual  summit of BRICS leaders in Kazan, Russia in October.

Modi had visited Russia last month, during which the two leaders discussed various issues, including India’s position that a solution could not be found on the battlefield and that dialogue and diplomacy they were the way forward.

In February 2022, Russia launched a “special military operation” in Ukraine. The conflict has continued since then, with Moscow gaining ground in eastern Ukraine, while Kiev captured parts of Kursk in an operation launched last week.

The United States and the European Union have supported Ukraine, giving it weapons and aid to rebuild its economy.

  Historic visit: Biden praises Modi

On Monday, the Indian prime minister briefed Biden on his visit to Ukraine and reiterated India’s  support for an early return to peace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. Foreign Affairs.

According to the White House, Biden praised Modi for his “historic” visits to Poland and Ukraine and for his “continued message of peace and humanitarian support for Ukraine.”

The US account of the call, however, did not mention their discussion about Bangladesh, while the Indian side said the two leaders were concerned about the country’s situation.

The MEA statement said: “The two leaders expressed their common concern over the situation in Bangladesh. They emphasized on restoring law and order and ensuring the safety and security of minorities, especially India-US relations soured last month when Modi visited Russia as the US hosted NATO leaders in Washington to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Western military alliance.

The US administration has asked New Delhi to reschedule the India-Russia bilateral summit  on dates that do not coincide with the NATO summit. US Secretary of State Donald Lu told the House Foreign Affairs Committee that Washington was having “difficult discussions” with India over the “timing and symbolism” of Modi’s visit to Moscow.
