With the demand for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, thousands of protestors gathered in Washington on Saturday. The mass in this protest demonstrated their grave disappointment towards the policy of President Joe Biden in the context of the Israel-Hamas war. The US administration reiterates its full support for the side of Israel. However, the protest seems to be a deviation of the viewpoint of the common people from the US highest authority.
Protestors carried banners, and placards reiterating the slogans such as “Let Gaza live” and “Gaza’s blood is on your hands” and some others. The voice of the common US people has been neglected so far and they even continued to reject the demand for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Israel-Hamas conflict
The conflict started on the 7th of October 2023, with the sudden attack of the Hamas group on Southern Israel. Subsequently, Israel officially announced an extensive strike on the Gaza Strip, which Hamas occupied for decades. The Hamas group has been considered a non-state actor, and the US and its allied nations tagged the group as a terrorist organization with no legitimate claim over the Gaza Strip.

Israeli forces launched the strike full of its arsenals and manpower which resulted in the fiercest fighting in the region since the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. Hamas made dozens of hostages of Israelis, which PM Netanyahu has considered a direct attack on Israel’s sovereignty. The current conflict is a part of decades-long Israel-Palestinian conflicts. As per the latest count, over 10,000 people have lost their lives since the conflict started.
Increasing support for the Palestinian cause in Washington
Washington, the heartland of the US, after so long, has witnessed this kind of huge scale protests. Since the birth of Israel as an exclusive nation for the Jews, the US has continuously supported the state against the Arab countries. Recently, some of the Arab countries also recognized Israel, as an outcome of the Abraham Accord, which was mediated by the US. But, the protest seems to have the mass opinion differing from the US top administration.
The policy approach of the Biden administration has the core element of continuous support morally, economically, militarily and for other possible aspects of the war against the Hamas group. However, Reuters confirmed that the protestors argue mainly based on the killing of innocent people in Gaza. Since 7th October, the continuous bombardment by the Israeli forces has cost thousands the innocent Palestinians.
Analysts made this claim that being a cosmopolitan society, the protest was mainly driven by the Jews living in the US. The largest Pro-Palestinian movement ever in the US, which has been triggered by the relentless retaliation starting from the 7th of October following the Hamas terror attacks, which claimed thousands of lives. Among the people, who have lost their lives, many were civilians and even a substantial number of the death toll were children.

This kind of huge protest actually underscores the growing sympathy and support for the Palestinian cause. The demonstration is a testament to burgeoning support for the Palestinian solidarity movement. This large-scale protest, as per the BNN network, aimed to send a powerful signal to the US administration with a strong message for rejecting the military aid package for Israel and advocating for the freedom and end of the age-old thrush between Israel and Palestine.
The pro-Palestinian demonstration in Washington DC has shown the global audience that there is a need for an immediate ceasefire and seeking an alternative solution to mitigate the crisis situation. The continuing Israeli adventurous military bombardment is only capable of taking the lives of innocents, but the intention to resolve the situation is the need of the hour and the current Biden administration can show solidarity with the civilians living in the Gaza strip.
