Communist Party of India leader and the defeated left Democratic Front candidate from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency Annie Raja criticises Rahul Gandhi’s double candidacy calling it unethical and cheated the people of Wayanad. The criticism came after Rahul Gandhi’s plan to leave the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, which is likely to retain Raebareli, congress sources confirmed to National media. In the recent general election, he won both seats with more than three lakh votes. Rahul Gandhi defeated left candidate Annie Raja with a margin of 3,64,422 votes in Wayanad.
‘Rahul cheated his loyal supporters in the constituency by hiding the details of his double candidacy in the polls, Rahul’s act is simply unethical. There is nothing wrong with Rahul Gandhi contesting in two Lok Sabha constituencies, the Constitution gives a permit for it. The only mistake was that he hid this information from the people of Wayanad. Rahul should have informed the double candidacy the voters of Wayanad in advance’, Annie Raja criticised.
‘women hold a more prominent position in Kerala society’
General Secretary of the National Federation for Indian Women, Annie Raja also stated that Kerala is one of the main states in the country giving better roles for women. ‘In Kerala, women hold a more prominent position in society compared to any other state in the nation. Therefore, we must lead the charge in this movement. The initial step should involve increasing the representation of women in party leadership roles. Additionally, I am involved in a women’s group that previously opposed the introduction of women’s reservation in Parliament when the proposal was introduced,’ She said.

The Constitution of India allows a person to contest an election from a maximum of two constituencies. However, the candidate can keep hold of only one and must resign from the other seat within 14 days of the election results. According to the act, If a member fails to resign from one seat, he/she can lose both constituencies. Therefore, Rahul Gandhi is expected to make a proper decision in the coming days. The Congress leader retaining Raebareli is crucial to get a stronghold in north India. Verily, except for three terms, Raebareli has been the home ground of Congress since 1952. Congress parliamentary chairperson, Sonia Gandhi won the seat from 2004 to 2019 and passed the seat to Rahul Gandhi in the general election 2024. Rahul Gandhi triumphs over BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh by 3,90,030 votes in the Raebareli. Rahul Gandhi will visit Raebareli next week with Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, and he will also visit Wayanad on June 12 to convey gratitude to the voters for the huge victory in the constituency.
