The 70 year old dispute

The Ram Mandir is a Hindu temple complex under construction in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The place is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ram. There had been a 70 year old dispute over the place where the temple was built. Muslims claimed that the land belonged to them and hence the Babri Masjid shall remain, whereas the Hindus claimed it to be their land. On 9th November, this dispute came to an end, and the five-judge bench ordered setting up a trust for the construction of Ram Mandir, and further ordered allocating 5 acres of land to muslims in Ayodhya to build a Mosque.

The Ram Mandir Consecration

The trust, in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the city administration, made extensive preparations to accommodate the large crowds of devotees and invited guests from all over the world. The Uttar Pradesh government declared a public holiday in the state and implemented strict security measures in and around the temple premises. In preparation for VIP movements, the entire city of Ayodhya’s security was beefed up.

The Government of India, along with some state governments, declared a half-day holiday to commemorate the event for their employees. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, completed the consecration ceremony of Ram Mandir on January 22, 2024, between 12:15 PM and 12:45 PM IST.

The trust had invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to perform the rituals. Modi was on a special 11-day fast in preparation for the consecration at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. During this ritual, he drank coconut water and ate fruits before sleeping on the ground.Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged all Indians to light diyas to commemorate the occasion and celebrate it like Diwali.

What the people have to say

People all over the world have clashing opinions on the making of Ram Mandir. Some people believe it to be a grand victory for the Hindus, as the place originally belonged to Lord Ram. But the majority of people found it a harm to the secularism of our country, where Hinduism is prioritized over the other religion, especially over Islam.

A lot of people have also lost their homes in the making of Ram Mandir. The people living around the area where the temple is being built, had to leave their homes. They also said that “Lord would not be pleased to see his home being built where the people are losing their houses”, the disheartened people made a plea. But despite all the clashing opinions and the varied opinions, The Ram Mandir consecration happened and the temple is expected to be completed soon.
