Rani Mukherjee recently revealed at the 54th International Film Festival that was held at Goa, that the only film she could not do and regrets heavily on is Aamir Khan starrer Lagaan that was directed back then by Ashutosh Gowariker and was released in the year 2001.
She said that back then she was indeed approached for the film as the lead opposite the highly talented actor Aamir Khan ,however she had already signed another film by then and could not take up the project because of that.

According to the sources at ANI News, Rani Mukherjee mentioned that back then Aamir Khan was stepping into the film as a producer and was very strict on having his actors in that particular place without anybody moving. He had this particular way and was strict on it which made it difficult to accept the film that later went on to be a big superhit at the box office.
Lagaan
The film Lagaan was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and was based on the story of character named Bhuvan who along with his village fellows retaliated the taxes levied by the British rulers unnecessarily on the already poor villagers by playing a cricket match against the British officials.
Lagaan was a sports drama film that was indeed very well written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and was made in the year 2001 and was set in the year 1983 with a backdrop of the Victorian period of British Raj where the poor villagers already challenged by draught were tortured by British officials forcing them to pay taxes. The villagers in the film are challenged by a very rude and arrogant British officer to play a game of cricket as a wager against the paying of taxes that will be waived off once they win the match.
The film received critical appreciation as well as international recognition and commercial success in India as well. The film also had the actress Gracy Singh playing the character of Gauri opposite Aamir Khan and it was her debut film according to sources.
The film also had other important characters played by Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne who played the British officials.

Rani Mukherjee began her career with the film Raja ki Aayegi Baraat and made her first ever commercial success in Bollywood by playing the lead opposite Aamir Khan in the film Ghulam and later on portrayed the character of Tina in love saga Kuch Kuch Hota Hai that gave her the much desired fame, name and popularity among the audiences.
Over her twenty years of career she also starred in several films like Hum Tum,Chalte Chalte with Shahrukh Khan, Veer zara, Bunty aur Babli, Kabhi alvida na kehna, Black ,Mardaani,No one killed Jessica with Vidya Balan, Talaash with Aamir khan yet again and Hichki as well as many more such hits where she stole the hearts by her stellar performances.
Rani was also seen recently in the film Norway Vs Mrs Chatterjee that was based on a true inspiring real life story of a mother from Kolkata who later shifted to Norway with her husband and who had to fight against the Norwegian lay authorities in order to gain the custody of her children who had been forcefully taken away from her under the pretext of saying that the parents followed Indian culture and traditions like co-sleeping with their kids at night and feeding their children by bare hands.
The Norwegian government deemed them to be unfit as parents and had taken away their children into foster care.
