While enjoying the Tiger 3 success starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, Emraan Hashmi talks about how he purposefully chose to distance himself from the stereotype of the “serial kisser” after becoming popular.

Emraan Hashmi’s absurd tag
Emraan Hasti has come a long way since he was labeled as the most “absurd” person for more than ten years—serial kisser—after becoming well-known for his second movie, Murder (2004), which starred Mallika Sherawat. He has reinvented himself and ventured outside of his comfort zone in the past few years. The actor, who starred as an antagonist opposite Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in Tiger 3, is enjoying this stage of his career even though the change in his image didn’t work out for him at first.
His biggest film, Tiger 3
Tiger 3, according to Emraan, is a significant movie for the industry and for his resume, particularly in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. He declares, “This is unquestionably the biggest movie in terms of scope, star cast, sheer amount of collections received, and production company YRF.” It was a very difficult time for us, at least in these post-Covid times, as the industry had undergone significant change. It is encouraging to see these kinds of receipts this year, and it seems that Bollywood is slowly making its way back to the top of the industry.
Emraan plays Aatish Rehman, an ex-ISI agent, the main antagonist in the Salman Khan film. In addition, Tiger 3 is the biggest movie in Emraan’s 20-year acting career. “It feels fantastic”, he remarks. “It’s reportedly an incredible achievement of Salman with a 200 crore box office collection in just 5 days”. It is a huge accomplishment for the team as a whole, even though we worked very hard on this ambitious film. They were writing this even before I intervened to take on the role of the antagonist. The scope of this movie, which took two to three years to complete, required everything to come together. It’s good when so many people go see your movie”.

Getting rid of ‘serial kisser’ tag
Emraan stays put even though he is enjoying Tiger 3’s success. He recalls how he broke through as an actor in 2003 with a small part in Footpath and how he overcame the stereotype of the “serial kisser.” Reflecting on his two decades of travel, Hashmi states, “I didn’t embark on the journey as a conventional main lead. I was working with a completely different genre of films. It wasn’t regarded as commercial at first, but it soon began to do well at the box office. Then, if you are playing a commercial lead, there is an ever-present trap for all actors: you will be caught by a particular character or hero archetype. He said that the tag was given as a joke but people used to stick to that.
He learnt from the downs
Prior to Tiger 3, Emraan, who had a booming beginning to his acting career with hits like Murder, Zeher, and Aashiq Banaya Aapne produced by the Bhatt camp, had been going through a slump. In response to the question of what lessons he has learned from his professional path, he says, “There are never any constants in this industry; there will always be ups and downs.” The most crucial thing is to keep your head firmly on your shoulders and return to your passion for acting. Because you won’t survive if your focus is on success, money, or the results of your films.
