Griffin Schiller, a film reviewer, posted a video of a recent Q&A session at the American Cinematheque Theatre on X. According to Robert Downe Jr., he met with Christopher Nolan about Scarecrow, the antagonist from Batman Begins (2005).

Robert Downey Jr. debuted as Tony Stark in 2008’s Iron Man, albeit not as Scarecrow. Before making his Oppenheimer debut, he oversaw the MCU for ten more years.

What Robert told Christopher Nolan

Robert said that when he heard about (this part), he immediately thought of himself as Scarecrow. Then he recalled thinking that he didn’t seem like he was really in on this interview. When he met (Christopher) for tea. He was courteous but in the end, he figured that it wasn’t really for him.

Before Batman Begins, Cillian, who played Scarecrow, had tried out for the role of Batman. When Cillian joined Marc Maron on WTF in July of last year, he revealed that he and Christopher thought Cillian “was wrong for” the Batman part. “But I did the test, and then he saw something in that and cast me as Scarecrow [in Batman Begins] and we continued on making movies,” he said.

The character Bruce Wayne/Batman was portrayed by Christian Bale.

Robert’s last work

Oppenheimer was where Robert was last seen. At the forthcoming 96th Academy Awards presentation, he, Christopher, and Cillian have been nominated for Academy Awards. Robert will take home the best actor in a supporting role trophy for Oppenheimer at the next Oscars, according to a recent statement from Sterling K. Brown.
