Russian missile hits Ukraine’s Harry Potter Castle- 5 killed, 32 injured

On the early hours of 29th April, a Russian missile attacked on an educational institute in Odesa, Ukraine kills 5 locals and leaves 32 injured. Locally known as Harry Potter’s castle, the institution is situated in seafront park in the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Odesa.

Regional governor Oleh Kiper said, after being severely injured a man died after suffering a stroke attributed to strike. Kiper said 8 people were severely injured that including a 4 year old child. Among the injured were a pregnant woman and a child too.

Oleh Kiper initially declared of two people and a dog dying in the Russian Missile attack adding “Another 8 people were injured including an 8 year old boy. In a statement on April 29, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine stated that there were now four confirmed deaths and thirty-two injured people—two of them were children, in a message on Telegram.

There are still 23 patients in the hospital as of April 30. According to Kiper, there are eight patients in critical condition. According to Kiper, there are eight patients in critical condition, 4 of whom are in a critical condition, including a 4 year of girl.

Kiper giving assurance added “Our doctors are trying to do their best”.

A student at the academy pointing towards the building said “In front of my eyes, a missile was shot down. My doors were blown open and the glass was shaking. And then I saw this,” as reported by Reuters.

As a result of the strike, the roof of the building—a private law academy—was completely shattered. Firefighters were still fighting tiny fires with water.

Serhiy Kivalov, a well-known former member of parliament and the academy’s president, who is also said to be a resident of the building was reported to be among the injured by public broadcaster Suspilne.

The attack, which occured amidst the ongoing tension between Ukraine and Russia Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanoy vents out in a video posted on Telegram saying “Monsters. Beasts. Savages. Scums. I don’t know what else to say.”

Support on its way to Ukraine- NATO

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on social media that in order to halt “Russia’s regular missile attacks, as well as the occupier’s efforts to destroy as many Ukrainian positions as possible,” further support from Ukraine’s allies was required.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated during a visit to the Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv earlier on Monday, that the alliance’s members had failed to provide Ukraine with what they had promised on time, allowing Russia to exploit battlefield advantages.

However, he did inform Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, that “support is on the way“. A post on Jens Stolenberg’s X account inform and asuure about the same.

Oleksandr Syrskyi, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian military, as his forces are engaged in combat with Russia, stated that his forces had withdrawn from certain areas in the Donetsk region and that the situation on the front lines has gotten worse.

The strategic importance of the port, added with its economic significance to Ukraine, makes it an intentional and continual target, with Russia intensifying its attacks in recent months.
