Salaar gets the biggest opening of 2023 | Best comeback for Prabhas

Bahubali star- Prabhas comeback film – Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire dethroned Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathan, Jawan, and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal to achieve the biggest opening day collection. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the film minted 100 crores on Day 1.  Pathaan, released on 23RD January, collected 57 crores on day 1 at the box office and Jawan recorded 63 crores. Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal earned 63 crores.

According to the reports, the film’s worldwide collection could be around 175 crores. It was released in five languages- Telugu, Tamil, Kanada, and English. In North America, it secured second spot in the top five Indian movies released in 2023. It earned 2.60 million dollars. Other movies include Kabali (2.45 million), Leo (1.86 million) and Bahubali 2 (2.45 million). The top spot is with RRR which earned 3.46 million.

Shah Rukh Khan’s latest release has underperformed on its opening day- compared to his other releases of the year – Jawan and Pathaan. The opened with 30 crores and garnered mix reviews from critics and audiences alike. Despite the alleged “ unfair” practices from the theatre owner who kept more Dunki shows – Salaar managed to overtake Dunki.

Critics response to Salaar

Popular critic Sumit Kadel took to his Twitter and wrote – Salaar is a mass bonanza which has Prashanth Neel’s stamp all over it. He further wrote film starts slow but ends on a high note in the second half. He gave the film 3.5 stars out of 5. Janay K of India Today gave the movie 3.5 stars out of 5 and wrote the movie is a mass masala action entertainer that celebrates Prabhas’s stardom.  Monika Kukreja of Hindustan Times wrote that Prabhas has made a stellar comeback and has snatched the title of most movie of the year from Animal. Mayur Sanap of Rediff gave 3/5 and Shubra Gupta gave 2/5 stars

 Popular actor – Sai Dharam Tej wrote a heartfelt note and said- “Cinema is winning”- he said he feels so proud looking back at the long way the Telugu cinema industry has come. His statement came in after Salaar was successful in making its equal presence felt alongside Bollywood’s Dunki and Hollywood’s Aquaman. He further added this is a marvelous feat that the industry has been hoping for a very long time and has come to life this day. He thanked everyone who brought this moment to life. 

Another prominent actor Chiranjeevi congratulated Prabhas and Prashanth Neel for putting the box office on fire and getting this stupendous success.

Salaar becomes Prabhas’s mega comeback

Post Bahubali, Salaar marked the best comeback for Prabhas.  All recent ventures didn’t get much appreciation from audiences and critics alike. His recent release, period drama- Adipurush opened with 86.7 crores. The movie received heavy criticism for its poor VFX, dialogues. Radhe Shyam opened with 43.10 crores but failed to impress the audience. Sahoo which was released in 2019 managed to mint 89 crores.

However, for the director Prashanth Neel, this sn’t the best opening of his career. His previous directorial KFG 2 opened with 116 crores and made over 1000 crores worldwide

Directed by Prashanth Neel, the film features Prabhas (Deva) , Prithviraj Sukumaran ( Vardha and Siva Mannar ) , Jagapathi Babu ( Raja Mannar) , Shruti Haasan ( Aadhya Krishnakanth) , Bobby Sinha ( Bhaarava)  Tinnu Anand ( Baba) . The film is presented by Himbale Films and produced by Vijay Kiragandur. It is said to be made with a budget of 270 crores.

The second installment of the film is titled Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanha Parvam.
