Prashanath Neel, director of Salaar is a Kannada movie director. He made his debut with a Kannada film named Ugramm in 2014 and worked as a director in both parts of K.G.F. -Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 which was the highest grossing movie in the box-office of 2022 and in 2023 he is back with another action pack movie Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire.
On the other hand after getting disappointed from the previous films like “Radhe Shyam” and “Adipurush”, Mr.Perfect of Telugu industries Prabhas is back in his action star avatar. After a three year wait, Salaar was finally released in theatres. This film has received an Adult only certificate from CBFC(Central Board of Film Certification), because of violent scenes and dark concepts.
Plot of Salaar:
The plot of this film is situated in the time of 1985 and 2017 and this film is based on two childhood friends -Deva (Prabhas) and Varadaraja Mannar (prithviraj) who later became two powerful figures in politics of Khansaar. In the beginning we see – working in a coal mine with his mother, Deva lives an ordinary life with a shady past in Tinsukia, a remote village in Assam but his life took a drastic turn when a gang of goons came in the town, looking for a relocated girl Aadhya Krishnakanth.
To save her Deva’s mother free him from her promise. Following the gang, he discovered that everything was planned by his childhood best friend Varadaraja. What happened in Deva’s past? Who is Aadhya? Why are goons searching for her? Why did two childhood best friends become enemies? In this movie you are going to discover all these aspects.
Character Analysis:
In this film the character of Deva is the leading character, a protagonist who is always ready to help his friend Vardha and adore and respect his mother’s decision. Prabhas’s acting, violent attitude, barely smile and masculine style, dialogue delivery, physique leave the audiences spellbound and his character more realistic and relevant in this film. Though Deva is the central character of this film, Varadaraja’s character has played a significant role to enhance this film, playing just a deep and focused character of Varadaraja, Prithviraj’s attitude, his deadly expression in situation and action sequences everything was perfect.
Just like these two characters Aadhya plays a key role in this film though her character mostly shown in the first half of this film, but because of her Deva returns to his motherland Khansaar. As a foreign character Shruthi Haasan plays her role very prominently.
Rajamanaar character in Salaar is the main villainous character in this film and he is the father of Vardha, by playing this character Jagapathi Babu has created an extra level of species in this film, Sriya Reddy aka Radha Rama Mannar’s character is also a key character of this film and wish it’s a bit longer and character is by The character of Deva’s mother who has some essence in the first half and Eeshwari Rao plays this character nicely.
The first half of this film was decent but as the story flows, action sequences and elevation of screenplay, including the interval and climax scene made goosebumps to the audiences. Characters of Jagapathi Babu, Sriya Reddy, Bobby Simha, John Vijay became more relevant in the second half.
I have noticed a major similarity between Animal and Salaal which is – in Animal the main protagonist Ranvijay Singh, killed and harsh everyone who tried to harm his father, as in Salaar the main protagonist Deva, in his young age also engaged with fight for his best friend Vardha but situation took a drastic change as his childhood best friend became his biggest enemy is the core subject of this film. But Salaar’s action sequences are more thrilling than Animal.
Not just Animal I can’t remember the last time I have seen that much blood smear in any films. Though director Prashanath Neel revealed that this film is a mixture of his first film- Urgamm’s plot and KGF’s action sequences but in this film the characters are more enhanced with lots of dramatic sequences and The second half of this film reminds me of KGF, which can affect this film’s storyline and somehow the character of Varadaraja reminds me of the character of Lucifer in the film Blood of Thrones. But if you like to watch family drama movie, this film can disappoint you.
