Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has shut down fellow filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s theory connecting the film to The Godfather series. Ram Gopal Varma has been a vocal supporter of the film Animal despite the backlash it has been receiving from certain groups of the audience. The Satya director has been singing praises of the Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna starrer recently on his social media handle amidst all the backlash.
The director shared on his social media handle that Animal has transformed the cultural landscape. RGV wrote that Indians are not the same Indians in terms of what the earlier Indians used to think. If films are believed to be an art form and reflect culture, he said Animal has redefined culture and destroyed what was earlier called art. He further emphasized that the film’s success serves as evidence that audiences are embracing both the movie and its director.
In a recent interview, Ram Gopal Varma said that he believes that Animal is a riff on The Godfather, but from Sunny Corleone’s perspective. Further, he drew comparisons between the film and the works of renowned directors Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese. Additionally, he mentioned engaging in a conversation with Vanga about a specific theory he had regarding the movie. However, the Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh fame director dismissed his theory in his distinctive and trademark fashion.
In his interview with News9 Live, RGV remarked that Animal brought to his mind Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. He highlighted in his statement that the last film he watched, where the character was not being judged by the director, was The Wolf of Wall Street. Leonardo DiCaprio’s character was portrayed as immoral and yet intriguing, akin to how he perceives Animal — a blend of legendary directors Scorsese and Tarantino, he suggested.
Elaborating further on his Animal-The Godfather theory, RGV said that Francis Ford Coppola’s film showed that Don Corleone was always scared of his son. Sonny’s desire to avenge his father Don Corleone when he was attacked reminds the Satya director of Ranvijay in Animal. He further added that he had asked Vanga about the theory and if he had read the book, the latter told him “I’ve never read a single book in my life.” RGV called Animal as the most unique film in the history of Indian cinema. He also has characterized Vanga as a highly commercial variation of Anurag Kashyap.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Tripti Dimri in important roles. The film is facing backlash from a certain section of the audience for its violent and bold content. Ranbir’s character is also being slammed by the public for his misogynist nature. However, in an interview, Bobby argued that the movie is raising awareness about the harsh realities and cruelty present in the world. Despite the criticism, has earned more than Rs 750 crores at the box office in just 12 days and has emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of 2023.
