Tamil veteran actor Sathyaraj, well known for his roles in films such as Bahubali 1 & 2 and Chennai Express recently is making headlines as fans are eager to watch him collaborate with superstar Rajnikanth in his upcoming venture titled ‘Coolie’.
‘Coolie’ will mark both Sathyaraj & Rajnikanth sharing the screen space after 38 years. Both actors have earlier worked in several films in their respective career’s time frame. However, there was a time when the two refused to work in the same ventures due to ego hassles between the two.
There was an instance where in 2008, Sathyaraj was about to play the role of the main antagonist in Rajni’s ‘Sivaji, but declined the role considering the rift between him and the Tamil superstar.
The two actors were reportedly last seen sharing screen space in 1986 for the film Mr Bharath, after which they joined hands to collaborate for one of Tamil cinema’s most anticipated film ‘Coolie’.
Helmed by ace director Lokesh Kanagaraj, ‘Coolie’ is an extension to the ‘Loki Cinematic Universe’ as dearly called by cinephiles & Rajnikanth and Sathyaraj joining the franchise of the same has made fans go frenzy over the internet. In the teaser, superstar Rajnikanth can be seen uttering a once famous dialogue from his own film from 1982 titled ‘Ranga’. While the news about Rajni & Lokesh Kanagaraj collaborating for an exciting film made headlines for the right reasons, veteran actor Sathyaraj joining forces with the production of ‘Coolie’ will provide the right ingredient for elevating the film’s quality, audience expectations, marketing push & box-office expectations.
In a recent promotional event actor Sathyaraj said “Since corporates came into (producing films), nothing can be confirmed by us. It is part of the contract. So, only they have to confirm any news. But I think the news that I am part of Rajinikanth sir’s film is already out. I am doing the film,”.
Sathyaraj has been predominantly part of several Tamil films in the past 4 decades. While for the rest of India, he has been popular with roles such as Kattappa in both franchises of S.S. Rajamouli’s Bahubali & Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express, for his Tamil audience many works of his are popular like Vedham Pudhitu (1987), Nadigan (1990) & Periyar (2007), to name a few.
