Selena Gomez, an international popstar, a devoted mental-health advocate, an Emmy-nominated actor and a beauty mogul, has hinted that she may soon be closing the chapter on her music career.
As reported by Variety, on an episode of the “Smartless” podcast with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, the mental health advocate (Selena Gomez) spoke about she’s finding a niche in the entertainment industry to settle on as she’s engaged with acting, singing and is the CEO of her own cosmetics line, Rare Beauty.

“I thought it would be fun and I thought more than anything it would be a hobby that I really enjoyed,” says Gomez on the podcast that will air on January 8th. “I wanted to be an actress. I never really intended on being a singer full time but apparently that hobby turned into something else.”
Gomez has released three studio albums since 2013, with hits that include “Come & Get It,” “Same Old Love” and “Lose You to Love Me.” She was nominated for an Emmy for her documentary ‘My Mind and Me’ in which she shares her journey to stardom, the challenges she encountered over her relationships and her battle with mental health disorders and Lupus. She recently released her latest single, “Single Soon.” Gomez currently stars in the critically acclaimed Hulu/Disney+ series “Only Murders in the Building” alongside Martin Short and Steve Martin.
Future Plans
Addressing the toll balancing her music and acting careers has taken on her, partly due to her mental health struggles, the multi-faceted star adds: “I went to a mental institute and canceled one of my tours…it just got to me because I love working and it distracts me from bad things.”
As the hosts praise Gomez’s musical talents on the podcast and supports her decision to not have to pick either career track right away, Gomez responds: “You’re right, but I am going to want to chill because I’m tired.”
