Shawn Mendes Announces New Album ‘Shawn’

Shawn Mendes has finally made a major comeback to the music scene by announcing his fifth studio album, titled “Shawn”. The self-titled project represents quite the important milestone in Mendes’s career, as it comes two years after he took some much-needed time out of the limelight for the sake of his mental health. The 12-track album includes the first two singles, “Why Why Why” and “Isn’t That Enough,” which will be available on the 8th of August.

Mendes has shared the moment in an Instagram post, saying how grateful he was for being able to create this album after he went through some rough times in his life.

Reflecting on his journey he expressed his feelings about his art, his music and called it a medicine. He also spoke about feeling lost and having no sense of self two years ago and how a year back he could not step into the studio without having a mental breakdown. The album artwork is way more than just an aesthetic; it captures the feeling of what’s inside. He refers to this album as personal, something that is close to his heart, as he has been facing things that have been happening over the last couple of years. It also gives the impression that he is changing his sound into a folk-inspired vibe, comparable to people like Zach Bryan and Noah Kahan.

Beating Back Mental Health Challenges

Mendes’ journey back into music wasn’t exactly smooth either. After calling off his 2022 “Wonder” world tour to take care of his mental health, he took some time for introspection and healing.

He has since spoken in interviews about how really tough it was during that time, with anxiety and panic attacks making it hard to engage with his art. Among all these issues, Mendes sought comfort from his music and from close friends and family. He even appreciated their support in one of his recent interviews, thanking God for his friends and family. He went further to describe just how brutal life is and how having a small group of people whom you really trust would help you walk through its challenges. It was such a support system that enabled him to go back into the studio and make music very close to his soul.

A New Musical Era

With “Shawn,” Mendes is not only coming back to music but will also be embarking on a new phase of his artistic journey. This album was co-produced by Mendes himself, along with collaborators Scott Harris, Mike Sabath, and Nate Mercereau. From the different studios in which this album was recorded – a list ranging from Costa Rica to Nashville – it gives way to the eclectic sound that fans can expect. A striking cover and heartfelt music will definitely back Shawn Mendes up for a powerful comeback.
