Fine Gael Party’s , Simon Harris , 37 year old Indian origin will be the youngest to become Prime Minister of Ireland. After Leo Varadkar’s sudden resignation, Simon Harris will take charge of the PM’s position.
He will take charge of Taoiseach, the Prime Minsiter’s office from April 9,2024, once the Parliament reconvenes. As per Al Jazeera, once the Parliament reconvenes, Fine Gael Party will move ahead with its coalition parties.
Who is Simon Harris?
Irish politician, Simon Harris, became the leader of Fine Gael ,in 2024. In the past he has held some key positions. Since 2016, he has been a minister in the government , holding important position like, serving as the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science since the year 2020.
Simon Harris, is from Fine Gael Party, which is the third largest party in Ireland, is a liberal-conservative and Christian-democratic political party .
Simon Harris’s Reaction on being the Prime Minister
Simon Harris said that it is “absolute honour of my life” to hold the position of party leader. He took the position of Leo Varadkar, after his sudden resignation. He resigned saying that the party some other leader will better be able to govern the party.
Harris pledged that he will do the harwork, show responsibility and humility. He will not break the trust with which he been given such an important position. Simon Harris said this, while he was addressing the members of his party.
Simon Harris clearly talked about his priorities, saying that law and order will be his topmost responsibility will be maintaining law and order. He also said that he will work on planning a more efficient immigrant policy and he will fight against the populism.
Adding to this Harris condemned Russia’s invasion to Ukraine. Along with asking ceasefire in Gaza. Simon Harris, will not get more than one year in order to protect and save his coalition government from losing the elections in the Oireachtas, which is the Parliament of Ireland.

As per the polls , the previous few years, a left wing party, Sinn Fein that supports conciliation and unification with Northern Ireland, is considered to be the likeable choice for the upcoming government . Besides this, there were two more polls conducted whichsaid that as per their polls the preference for Sinn Fein is decreasing since past twelve to eighteen months.
