Sino-US relations came under the limelight recently. On November 9 (Thursday), China’s ambassador to the United States asserted that the relationship between China and the US earlier was instrumental in halting the low points. Today, it stands non-turbulent on many fronts but continues to encounter grave challenges. From the Chinese ambassador’s point of view, the crucial thing for both countries now is to search for right path for them to ‘get along’. Both Biden and Jinping will have a high-level meeting this month.
The Chinese ambassador also mentioned that the leaders of the countries played a pivotal role in changing the derailed nature of the relationship and they drove it into a positive direction based on their ‘joint efforts’ to highlight mutual interests. But there is still a long way to go as the ambassador currently sees a lot of roadblocks that hinder the smooth facilitation of this connection. “Sino-US relations are still facing severe challenges” stated the ambassador, hinting at the profound level of endeavors that both the parties involved will need to undergo to arrive at a stable, improvised connection.

Sino-US relations: Addressing the Challenges
The bilateral relationship between India and China has hit a rough patch, indicates Xie. As per him, there are other challenges as well. So the principles of the Chinese President Xi Jinping that outline this relationship based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation must be taken as an example. Going further, Xie quotes the importance of the upcoming leaders’ meeting in San Francisco where both Biden and Jinping would see each other and discuss matters concerning the Bali consensus.
He pointed out the urgency in carrying out the process of implementation of the things that two Presidents ascribed to in their Bali agreement. Their common understanding of the topic was much sought-after, and it was now important to complete the management of the entire process. Furthermore, the viable atmosphere for a positive outcome needs a required level of preparation and follow-ups on both sides. It facilitates the countries to head onto a similar trajectory without having to compromise on mutual interest.
The Road Ahead
The Chinese ambassador proposed a better movement of people between the two countries. He asked the attendees and others to travel more and expedite the modes of dialogue and exchanges. All these things would eventually aid in breaking the ice of misconceptions surrounding the places, people, and communities of both countries. The aim should be to build newer ways to flourish mutual understanding. Some of the common aspirations propounded for the participants by the Chinese ambassador were to –
- enable the ways to rationalize their temperaments
- clear the way forward to propel the ideas of wisdom
- allow the voice of reason on both sides to be heard of
- nudge the general support of the common people for Sino-US friendship
- contribute to closer ties of a steady, healthy, and legitimate development mutually.
