The movie has been in production since 2016 and was supposed to announce their release in October 2023 but unfortunately the dates have been further postponed. The hype for the movie is quite a lot and fans are eagerly waiting for the movie. Here is everything that we know so far

SNOW WHITE: RELEASE DATE

Variety reports that the film’s initial release date of March 22, 2024 has been rescheduled to March 21, 2025.

SNOW WHITE: CAST

Rachel Zegler, of latin descent, is the lead who will portray Snow White in the movie. The actress is known to have won the Golden Globe award for the Best actress in a motion picture comedy/ musical. She has also worked with Ansel Elgort and Ariana DeBose. Her casting was announced officially in July 2021 through an instagram post captioned “Well..Hello to the dream come true”. The director Marc Webb believed her vocal abilities would be perfect for the movie.

Gal Gadot, who will be playing the evil witch, will star opposite Rachel. Gadot is infamously known for her work in Wonder Woman and Justice League.

The final confirmed star is Andrew Burnap who will play the role of Jonathan. Tony Award-winning actor Andrew appeared in the Broadway production of The Inheritance. In addition to his television performances in Younger, The Good Fight, We Crashed, and Under the Banner of Heaven, he made an appearance in the 2018 film The Chaperone.

Marc Webb will be directing the Snow White remake. He has also directed The Amazing Spider Man and its sequel. While Marc Platt is producing the movie, Mandy Walker is going to be the cinematographer and Mark Sanger, the editor. Pasek and Paul who previously worked on The La La Land and The Greatest Showman, will be working on the songwriting for Snow White as well.

SNOW WHITE: PLOT

The exact plot for the story remains unknown however, the movie “expands upon the story and music from the beloved animated classic,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. There will be inclusion of new songs as well. While the story of Snow White was shown originally by the Brothers Grimm in 1812, The live action movie is an adaptation of the 1937 adaptation which was based loosely on the fable. Hence we can anticipate seeing the glass coffin, the poisoned apple, the magic mirror, and more in the remake.

SNOW WHITE: THE CONTROVERSY

The controversy about the movie stirred when The Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage, who is a person of short stature, remarked that the movie claims to be progressive yet they want to portray the seven dwarfs living together in a cave.

To this Disney responded by saying they are trying to take a different approach and are consulting the dwarf community to bring in a fresher aspect to the scenes.

Another controversy that caught everyone’s attention was Rachel Zegler’s comment when asked about the movie. Rachel stirred up debates when she said to the Variety that it is not 1970s anymore and she won’t be dreaming of true love or having her prince come to her rescue. Dreaming of being fearless, fair, brave, and true, she wants to become the leader she knows she can be and the leader her late father told her she could be.

The audience, including David Hand, who is the son of the original editor of the animated movie criticised Rachel for her disapproval of the love tale in the first movie. David Hand felt that it is a bit insulting to see what Disney is doing to the originals.
